The points from the Bolton game
« on August 28, 2019, 05:27:53 pm by RoversAlias »
Not seen anyone mention this, an article on the Free Press today where Gavin Baldwin says he will push for us to be awarded the points from the Bolton game if they survive in the league:

https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/doncaster-rovers/doncaster-rovers-reveal-their-stance-on-postponed-game-at-crisis-club-bolton-wanderers-492614

Very interesting that we've finally made our stance known.

Probably been their thinking all along..

I can’t remember specific examples but when clubs before have failed to fulfil a fixture, the opponent is awarded the points.

It’s a no brainier really..

The EFL won’t announce anything regarding our game and what we may or may not be awarded until the deadline has passed for Bolton in 14 days time. What’s the point in awarding us points and giving them further points deduction/fines if they cease to exist in 2 weeks?

They will sit on our postponement until they know if there’s any need for a punishment or not

Takeover now gone through, hopefully the EFL show some b*llocks and award us the three points that I'm very confident we would have earned.

Something's just hit me about the mendacity of the Bolton move in calling off our game.

They KNEW that the club was either out the league or saved within a fortnight.

They KNEW that, if they were saved, they'd be bringing in new players (as we'll see over the next few days).

The KNEW that, if they were hoyed out, they have no more matches.

Either way, the situation of their youngsters having to play Sat-Tues-Sat could only go on for another couple of weeks.

So the bullshit about being concerned for their welfare was...well, bullshit.

We should insist that the game is awarded to us with a 5-0 scoreline, just like the two results either side of that game date. If the EFL say no, we should refuse to replay it and dare them to kick us out of the league.

And no doubt, the irresponsible spending will commence once again and no one will bat an eyelid!

I hope we also insist we are compensated by Bolton before they spend a penny on players.

I hope their fans group/trust lobby the new owners for a stake in the club and an understanding of how they intend to operate.

They called our game off because they couldn’t afford to host it, simple as that nothing to do with welfare

If they couldn't afford to host our game why could they then afford to host their next fixture against Ipswich?

Have Bolton got a player embargo

Yes.

Ah, so will they be able to sign players before the deadline (is that Monday by the way) because if they can’t, where does that leave them?
With the same set of players that they currently have?

Once the EFL are satisfied the club are in good hands and the report to the EFL about FFI (Future Financial Information) it will be lifted. That gives them a few days I would think.

the way i see it is either

rovers get 3 points then they might not lose another 3 points

or rovers have to play them then they lose 3 points (as per Middlesbro last century ? was it)

so the best result for them logically is give us 3 points

but i think the second will happen

no points deduction for them and the match taking place can't happen -- it's their fault they have no old players

I don't buy all this concern for the kids welfare and mentality.

Do they show concern for the kids welfare and mentality when they sign them as 9/10 year olds , then shatter their dreams by releasing them at 16/17/18 year olds because they're not good enough.

I don't think so.

The EFL won't judge on the issue of Welfare. They will judge on not following the correct procedures to request a postponement and whether they could have taken other measures to avoid it.

I don't think so.

They could still sign free agents after the deadline

What about the players who left without getting paid , most players will be very cautious about signing with Bolton now .

they'll get some loan players in i'd assume though. In no way should we agree to a replay make the EFL squirm as much as possible.

They cancelled the game. Did not ask permission so can’t be a postponement.
3 points to Rovers. End of.
Anything else is a breach of the rules. That’s always assuming Bolton survive of course.
If they don’t survive, then all the results and points from the matches they played must be expunged.
Any other outcomes would make a mockery of the league competition.
It would send out a message to all clubs who had a few injuries that they can just, on a whim call off the game they are due to play even at 24 hrs and they don’t even have to inform their opponents.
The EFL need to stand firm on this and do their job or it will lead to future chaos.

I personally would have much preferred to play the game. I have not been to their stadium yet having missed the match in Dec 2013 due to being in Australia watching England being thrashed in the Ashes
But that’s another story.

At least Rovers are prepared to submit a strong and sensible case to the EFL if and when the time comes.
As far as i am concerned there is no case to submit. It’s in the rules. They unilaterally cancelled the game without any request to do so.

There is a case to be made from us, both from a playing point of view and a financial one.

That will have been done.

It's now down to the EFL to act.
