Liam Rosenior. Intelligent, positive and likeable man.

I wouldn’t mind Adkins if we go for experience but feels like a short term pick.

Folk keep going on about experienced managers. Experienced in what? There are a few out there we wouldn't want to touch with a bargepole.

When we say 'experienced' what do we mean?

I can't quite believe this needs pointing out, but when I say experience, I mean as a minimum someone who's an actual football manager. As in, they have experience managing a professional football team.

Two of our previous three managers didn't fit this basic prerequisite. We're not asking for a lot...

Just playing devils advocate but does GMc now fall into that category?

Adkins is favourite

As a manager he's achieved nothing for a long long time. Not the man.

Steve Bruce at 25-1. PMSL.

That would actually be hilarious but not in a good way.

Some interesting stats on here especially where former managers are concerned. Obviously the amount of games managed affects the overall PPG but still interesting none the less.

Thank you to those that have shared the links to the markets.

Some frankly ludicrous names already in the betting (Keane, McCarthy, Bruce, Carrick to name a few) that are so far detached from reality it’s not even funny!

Interesting to see where we go with this. As always there is the balance between what we class as experience (and the value we place on this) vs what can be demonstrated by an up and coming candidate. Most experienced managers will have overseen and experienced spells of failure, or will not have gained their experience of delivering uninterrupted success at our level. I’m not and never have been against the notion of giving someone a chance to make their mark here, but it’s already clear that many of the fans are looking for “experience” of some description.

Tough decisions ahead, we will not please everyone. Personally, I really do not want Nigel Adkins. I agree 100% with BFYP that he’s not the right fit for us, and his more recent experience demonstrates that.

Depends on teams/budgets they're using to get those PPG. Finishing 4th with the biggest budget in the league is an underachievement but would be a good PPG, finishing 8th with the 17th biggest budget in the league is a very decent overachievement but would be a lower PPG average in comparison.

We are in the fourth tier and are no way a shoe in for promotion next season and there aren’t millions available to spend in January. Who we can get is actually quite limited by these facts.

We have a squad which on paper just outside the playoffs that has had results this year.
A board with a track record of backing managers if they see promise.
A good shot at a promotion on the CV.

I think we have more options that last year when nothing was going right and squad was shite.

Can't see it ,  if he did get the job it could turn out to be a masterstroke but I don't think we'd take that risk.

I'd be very happy with Graham Alexander, however I'm not sure he's realistic.

Schofield would be completely illogical in our position.

I would go for any of  the main  3 favourites:

1. Adkin’s - good at this level and one above, seems to struggle in the championship though. Has a style of play.

2.Hasslebank, big name, played some good stuff with Burton, and has an eye for a player.

3.Graham Alexander - good experience in Scotland prem.

Johnathon Woodgate - not for me, mainly because he has little experience.

Danny Schofield - a donny lad, still living in the town- no experience

Paul Green - as above, no experience and not what I think we need.

Go get SOD and ROK. Get the gang back together for one last heist. The bar is fairly low this time - just get us back to L1 and looking upwards from there. Ideally playing ‘expansive’ football with an identity about the club we can build on in future.

He is probably the 2nd best manager we’ve ever had. The best in my 46 years of watching. He just might fancy it.

Not sure about JFH seems to start ok then loses his way
Adkins was always JR’s favourite but seems to have lost his way
Don’t really know much about Alexander other than Salford and Scunny

SOD would need too long. Difficult to see him being given enough time to impose his will on any team in this day and age.

If we're playing the ex-manager game though, someone like Dave Penney probably would be more suitable and realistic for our current needs. Straight talking, decent attacking football with a bit of passion. Has come in once before and picked up an underperforming side by the scruff of the neck. Departed York City only last month too. Before I get ridiculed, i'm not seriously suggesting we go and recruit Dave Penney but I do think someone of his ilk may be more realistic.

He also signed Copps of course.

As soon as I saw his name on the list, I commented that he would be a very very "Rovers- like" appointment.

He has bigger issues to concern himself with, like supporting his wife through her illness

Rob Edwards seemed to know what he was doing when managing Forest Green in Lge 2 so out of the ones mentioned so far he would be my choice!

Rosenior not a bad shout. Didnt realise he won 7 out of 12 at Derby before being sacked. Interesting.

Paul Green.

He has an interview apparently, and knows the club - which the board always favour.

The board don't want a revolution at the club. Just someone to tow the line and get us promoted if possible.

Personally think someone external with no previous links should be brought in. A fresh set of eyes and ideas to shake things up - but that won't happen in my opinion.

Absolute nonsense!

Zero chance of Edwards joining us. Rosenior probably shouldn’t want to join us but it does seem quite tough for young, black managers to get jobs in the 92 so maybe like Moore we can offer that opportunity to talented people that other clubs don’t. Graeme Lee should not be someone we would look to recruit and it is worrying that his name is out there now.
