Kieran Brady
« on January 27, 2022, 06:13:44 pm by roversdude »
With the Sunderland game fast approaching I was minded to look up one of the greatest loan players we had (in my opinion). The 4 games he played for us showed what a talent he was and what could have been.
Didn’t realise he had become a Alcoholism Consultant based on his experiences

Such a brief career, ended at 22. Remembered by all who saw him though.

What a player. He looked to be on a different planet to whoever else was in the team at the time. I couldn’t believe he was playing for us. It didn’t last unfortunately.

He was brilliant. Tragic to be cut so short.

Their budget ground hasn’t changed in 30 years. Still same empty and weather-worn seats, still same local businesses advertising on pitch side.

Please note this is from Wiki
Brady was forced to retire from football in 1993, at age 22, due to a rare medical condition. He suffered from popliteal artery entrapment syndrome, a condition in which calf muscles press on the artery that runs behind the knee. He initially experienced minor leg pains before he was aware of the condition.[4] He sued his former club, club's manager, and club's therapist for failing to send him to a specialist physician earlier. The court found no liability

Only played a few games but made a massive impression on me, one of the most naturally gifted players I’ve ever seen!

Didn’t he come back to us to ‘kick start’ his career, but it never worked out?

I remember that. I think it was 94/95 in the first Sammy Chung season?

Impressed me so much when he played for us,about 2 years later I named my son Kieran after him,I was tempted to give him Brady as middle name too,but decide against it when we opted for my name for his middle name, dont tell the wife. He,me and my grandson are now a regular trio to watch Rovers.

His first game was my first ever Rovers game. He won and scored a penalty for the winner in a 2-1 victory against Hereford. Saw him again against Crewe were Mark Hine scored the goal of the season (a consolation in a 2-1 or 3-1 defeat) - don’t think he pulled any trees up in that game.

Amazing that so many remember him on the basis of 4 games

23 October 1992. Friday night. That was my first game also. I went to see Mike Jeffrey play.

He was brilliant in that loan spell. He did come back but he couldnt get fit.

Seem to recall Sunderland did a piece in the program a couple of years ago about him.

Class player shame he got an obscure injury - should have gone on to great things.

Mark Hine’s howitzer as John Helm called it.

Did he not hit the bar/go just over with a screamer in the carling Cup final or semi v Liverpool as a sub for Sunderland before coming to rovers?

There’s some footage on YouTube of him playing for Sunderland, absolutely brilliant, when he first burst on the scene I think he was expected to be one of their biggest ever talents.

He was on the bench for the 1992 FA Cup semi final, but didn’t get on the pitch.
