Boris' speech to the House today: -- We can lift these restrictions because total deaths are low for this time of year. This is irrelevant. We need to be considering how many Covid deaths there are. Still 1,000 per week so double the annual rate for the worst years of flu.- No longer legally required to self-isolate but advised to from 24th Feb, then from 1st April exercise personal responsibility on deciding whether to stay at home. Why? Is Omicron getting safer to meet these deadlines? Regardless of overall infection rates any one individual with Covid is still just as likely to infect the same amount of people with a dangerous, nasty illness.- Self-isolation support payments for those on low incomes to end. So the rich can exercise personal responsibility on whether to go to work and potentially infect their (mainly richer) colleagues. The poor have no option but to go to work and potentially infect their (mainly poorer) colleagues - unless they have a generous employer.

I’m surprised that the 8.7% figure is so low.I know two people who have bragged about claiming furlough payments but have worked the system so that they continued to operate but claim the payments. It is up to the system now to weed out those types and punish them.
Juicy. Problem, reaction, solution. Maybe?? Hopefully my personal vsc troll will debunk this. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10542309/Fresh-lab-leak-fears-study-finds-genetic-code-Covids-spike-protein-linked-Moderna-patent.html
Just a comment on the news and how things fall quickly down the agenda.Barely a peep on Covid in the media recently despite it being the main news item for 2 years.See here www.bbc.co.uk/news/coronavirus no new article since 21st February.Reflected on here too. Only 3 posts since 23rd February, none since the 28th on a thread running to 546 pages.Yes of course the unfolding tragedy in Ukraine is the major event occurring in the world right now and warrants the media attention it is receiving. But over 700 people died in the UK with Covid last week - a rate c. 50% higher than the very worst years for influenza.
For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic the mortality risk from civid is now lower than that from flu. It's now 'no worse than flu'.https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1501886435145699328
Does anyone believe covid was ‘released’ either accidentally or purposely from a lab & if purposely the Chinese government underestimated its spread & effects?
