Apologies if I missed this, does anyone know when Sheffers will be close to first-team consideration?

Quite soon I think. I've said it all season, he could be the one that gets us over the line. He was class last season.

Think ATS is training with the squad again and I'm sure Fergy said McSheffrey wasn't far away from that either..

I still think signing a player when injured was a really dumb move on our part..He is going to need a full pre-season and hope he doesn't pick up any niggles that dog older players coming back from long term injuries...
Will he contribute this season?? If all goes well he could but don't see DF rushing him back until he thinks he's fully ready and that wont be for a while yet..

Cant see GMcS having any impact this season. By the time he's match fit we'll have probably gained promotion. He might get a cameo run right at the end to help him to pick up a new club for next season. Just my opinion obviously.  :scarf:

Don't think McSheffrey will be fit until April and then he will only be a bit part player. Won't get into this team as things stand.

Will be nice to have some set piece mastery if we have tight games we need to win to get over the line.

He's a better player than Coppinger in that same position. Far more productive.

Sorry !!!!! Are we talking about the Coppinger that wears 26 for us.
You are entitled to you opinion of course but I am not too sure many on here would agree with you.
McSheffrey is well past his best now. In his prime yes you MIGHT be right.

I wouldn't argue with that actually when fit...But you can be Ronaldo for what good it does you when you've spent best part of 2 years sat in the stands...

I can't understand how anyone can compare Copp's to McSheffrey, I think half of Scunthorpe would also disagree. For a start we haven't seen enough of McSheffrey however if Gaz is correct and I'm wrong we've made one hell of a signing !

Very difficult to compare the two. Prior to this season, you could argue McSheffrey was the more direct player of the two with more end product however, Copps has been brilliant this season as we've seen more end product and overall product on top of his entertainment value!

Alongside Marquis, Copps is right up there as the most valuable player to date. You only have to look at the 3 game suspension to see what we missed in those matches.

Should McSheffrey get fit then DF has another pleasant selection problem!

I think what Gaz is trying to get across is not to compare the players but that particular position out wide....

The fact that mcsheffrey was seen inside Scunthorpes ground at a recent sunny home game with his two kids who were wearing the club
shirts of Doncaster rovers at least tells us that mcsheffreys head is in the right  place as far as DRFC are concerned .

We now hear Copps is playing with a minor injury so are we going to lose him for a game or two, also Mandeville out for at least three weeks. This is where it gets sticky. I understand Longbottom is out injured too..

Rowe can go into Copps position.

My gut feeling for the team against Newport is.

                                              Lawson

                          Alcock.           Baudry.        Butler

       Blair                    Houghton.        Rowe             Mason

                          Marquis.                      Williams

So 3/5 2 2  formation. Mason and Rowe may be switched other way round.
Just my gut feeling that's all.

Subs. Etherington, Wright, Evina, Keegan, Beestin, May,  Mandeville / Longbottom ( depending on fitness)

I missed Grant off bench instead of Longbottom although he may ply him instead of Williams and play him behind Marquis.

Beginning to wish I had never started this.
I'll let DF pick the team

Because our 10 will be better than Newports 11
But seriously I was thinking the same.
We better put Grant in the hole behind the two front men.

Copps fine to play though.  Gary mc is in training. IT will be a big boost to get him fit. Quality player.

Here is the DFP article;
Doncaster Rovers: New injury concerns for James Coppinger and Liam Mandeville - Doncaster Free Press

Now ATS and McSheffrey are back training they must be close.
