#drfc Vs Torquay United 08/01/1994, I stood on the Pop Side - we lost 2:0 infront of around 1300 fans; I was hooked from then. :scarf:

Question is.....What was your first match?

1976 v Hartlepools.  I think that we won and Kitch scored...although I only remember from reading about it.  I was 7.

December 1958 v Rohdale in Div 3, I think it was 0-0 - we were relegated this season.  Interestingly (or not!), my first away game was at Rochdale.

November 1969. Bristol Rovers at home. Won 3-1.

Funny how so many of us started part way through a season.

Burnley 28 December 2008.

My first football match at Rovers and I know I'm therefore a 'newbie' but after being unable to enjoy football for a very long time is it any wonder I tell everyone how wonderful I think Rovers are.

It also began an interest in the entire history of Rovers and I devour the stories and memories of forum contributors with much pleasure.

At Belle Vue against Hartlepool in the old Division 4 i think ~1991

left early at 2-1 down with about 5 minutes left. Got home and saw on Calender that the game finished 4-2!

Can't remember anything from the game so must have been about 4 at the time

That was in March 2004, the season we won the 3rd Division title. Akinfenwa equalised for us right at the end.

My first match was during the season 1961/2 but as I was only 5 years old I have no idea what date nor which match.  I can say with some certainty though that I would have been down by the wall at the rosso end wearing my red and white scarf and shaking my Rovers rattle painted red and white as I joined in to every chorus of Zigger Zagger!.

1967 away at Port Vale. I think my Dad was forced to take me along with his drinking buddies to watch King Alick, so about 8 fellas and me squeezed in to a Dormabile. I think we lost.

First home game a few weeks later against the Posh. It took all my time trying to work out why their players were supposedly of better 'class' than us working class.

Still, my avid memory is clambering up the old main stand wooden steps and being greeted by the wide expanse of the greenest of green pitch I had ever seen. I was hooked !!

August 76.

Rovers v Torquay  0-4

Not the greatest of starts but in fairness it could only improve from there.

My first match was a pre-season friendly against Chelsea early in the 80s, not sure of the date or the final score, all I remember is that Rovers scored very early in the first minute or so then I think lost 3 or 4 to 1 or 2, I think there was another pre season friendly that same pre season against Wolves, but again I may be getting my years crossed - a mate of mine at the time was the mascot! :)

I also remember after the game running home to Intake across the Firestation Field thinking we were going to get attacked by a load of Chelsea nutters!

I first started going regularly at home in the 84/85 season including seeing the QPR FA cup game at BV and going to Everton in the next round.

A couple of seasons later my parents felt I was old enough and sensible to get the train to away matches on my own more regularly. By the time 88/89 came round, I barely missed a game Home and Away - Been the same ever since! :scarf:

Anyone enlighten me on year of my first friendly? I was quite young so it's a bit hazy!

Was that Alick's first goal after his comeback Bedale?

If so I remember being seriously miffed - it was Easter and we were visiting family in Swansea. Me and my mate had been waiting since Alick s first game in December to score that first goal and I missed it. It seems some fans ran on the pitch -  my mate had a broken leg in a cast at the time and couldn't get over the wall - he was also miffed.

On another note - great to see a large number of recent and presumably mainly young converts on here. The presence of us oldies is a warning once you are hooked it is a lifelong experience - a club is not just for Christmas :scarf:

Also I see quite a few of us experienced a defeat in our first game - some like Sir JR experienced a heavy defeat. The heavier a defeat the longer a fan??
