Released our new home & away kit this morning via Twitter!
Frustrating post this as I'm not sure how to do provide a link but the home kit is relatively similar but the stripes are like waves. The away kit I feel will be like Marmite. I quite like it.
Don't think there's anything on the official site yet so if someone could provide a link that'd be sound!

Wavy. :/
-
I like both of them!!
-
At least it's back to the White shorts, much smarter than red.
-
f**k me I hope we've kept the receipt.
-
WTF! It looks like the work of some mad art student. How hard can it be to get right?
-
Who ever designed the home shirt must have been pi**ed up. I quite like the away one though.
-
The away one's great. Home one takes a bit forgetting used to. At least the kits don't look like aprons
-
Not one to normally comment. They are what they are, but on this occasion it's a No from me. Yuck!
-
Both are dreadful.
-
Had to check that it's not 1st April.
-
Marmite anyone?
-
Quite like them myself, but as always not to everyone's taste
COYR
-
Still too much white on the home kit but I do quite like it. Away shirt looks like a training top but I reckon it is better than the current one.
-
Like them and for the 1st time ever I might consider buying the away shirt if they are big enough😕
-
The home kit would be fine if the hoops were horizontal .The away one is bobbins.
-
Bloody hell.
I say this every year, but why on earth do we feel we have to keep dicking about with hoops? Straight horizontal red and white stripes. Why is that so hard?
The away kit looks like the sort of thing a city-centre church-leader might commission for their youth group in an effort to give the impression they're cool and edgy. I bet it's got a matching baseball cap.
-
Good grief.
What on earth are they?
If the hoops were straight that home kit would be bang on. And if the away shirt didn't have that white stripe and weird bit around the sponsor, it would also be a cracking kit.
Why do they always have to try and overcomplicate it?
-
Not really a first team shirt . Back to the crayons I think 🤔
-
I like them both
-
Bloody hell.

This. Hoops are our trademark now. We're the only English club that has red and white hoops. Why isn't that enough? I appreciate we have to have a new kit every year now because it's a money maker for the club but it feels like we're just fiddling with the design for the sake of it. It feels like the priority when designing the new kit is to make it look different, not to make it look good.
Looks like someone designed it last minute on the bus, and f**ked up drawing the first hoops so they had to make all the others wonky to match.
The away kit I think I could learn to like though.
-
Just looked at the pictures again, is it me or does Butts looks like he is holding his gut in. Might have to do that myself but I feel I might still look as if I’m smuggling a wok! 😃

-
That new home kit is truly unforgettable.
No matter how much therapy you have.
-
I'll be different. I like the home kit more.
-
No new kit will ever be ideal or suit everyone. I'm not sure about the wavy lines but I suppose it doesn't go to far away from the traditional hoops. Like this season's kit I guess I'll get used to it. I'm in the "quite like it camp" as far as the away kit is concerned.
-
I suppose at least it's not as bad for the eyes as the old 1990s 'TV interference' hoops were. The problem with this design is it just looks wishy-washy and indecisive to me.
-

-
Dreadful home kit it will be the first one I don’t buy in many a year.
-
Well my close season is in tatters as I see that next season’s new kit has already been revealed – I had been looking forward to the usual debate, design suggestions from fans etc.
It looks as if the designer must have lost his ruler.
And the away kit looks like a training top to me
-
Good news: The shorts and socks look good and can be interchanged in the event of a colour clash.
Bad news: The away shirt looks awful. Shame they didn't do some similar to this season's design with different colours. The home shirt - why the need to angle the hoops? A case of over-complicating what should be variations on a classic design (think Celtic, for example).
-
So are we the swirls instead of the hoops now then?
-
The home ones growing on me tbf.
-
I don't mind the home one. Its modernised and something a bit different.
The away kit however is utterly dreadful. Looks like a training kit
-
i don`t mind the away top, but the red shorts and socks don`t work. home kit unsure on that.
-

I thought the same about the red shorts and socks with that away top. They just don’t look right at all and is probably making the top look worse as well.
The home kit would be spot on if the hoops had been kept level.
-
I really like the look of the home kit, not impressed by the away kit though. Still wish we would design a shirt with a collar though. Used to love a collar on a football shirt!
-
Bloody hell.

Sadly we had not had hoops on any shirt for a number of seasons, until the current design. What we have had are designs with horizontal stripes. Hoops should be continuous from the front to the back without the white break panel down the sides, similar to the Celtic shirts.
There will be some who call me pedantic for pointing this out, but I prefer to deal in facts.
-
Oh dear. Well, as said its all down to taste but it looks to me like a run of material that went wrong in the machine. I guess we'll be glad to Wave bye bye to this one at the end of the season!
-
Then again, we could make something of it. A Viking Wave!
-
The home kit is awful, the away kit looks like a training top, I hope no one has been paid to design those
-

I think Louis Tomlinson and his grandad did a better job!
-
I'd love the home one if it was straight, just looks a bit naff otherwise. The away one is smart, but it does look a bit like a training top.
-
Home : 9/10
Away : 7/10
Like them both, especially the home kit .White shorts always looks better with any top ...
-
Quite like home one, will be getting one through the silver plus bolt on. The away is shocking, just like many have said it here, it looks like a training top.
We need to go back to having shirts every two years with the home and away shirts being staggered each year!
-
https://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/news/2018/april/young-fans-get-first-glimpse-of-new-kit/
-
They're both horrendous in my opinion. I really want to buy a new home shirt as I've not had one in a number of years but they keep coming out with these crap designs. The wavy 'hoops' are a disaster, who thought that as a good idea? It looks stupid, and I'm also annoyed that they've left a huge white block for the sponsor again. It makes the whole thing look odd, it made this year's look a bit like the players had a bra design on their shirts due to the way the shoulder 'hoop' was done too. Rubbish.
The away kit is a mess too, and far too red. It might look alright with black shorts & socks, but otherwise I dread to think what it'll be like watching us play away to teams like Fleetwood and Accrington.
All about opinions of course but both kits are a big fat zero from me.
-
Mess of a home kit, club needs to stop messing with our identity.
Strange, when I brought this up in March Silent Majority mentioned that there was a plan for supporters to be involved in a shirt design competition.. wonder what happened to this?
At least when we had a vote we sifted out the "different" designs!
-
The home kit looks hideous... slanted lines ffs.
If you have one leg longer than the other it looks ok i suppose
-
It’s safe to say that the new kit is marmite ...... you either like it or hate it
-
So are we the swirls instead of the hoops now then?
The Helter-skelters more like.
-
Irrespective of what we all think of the kits the launch involving the kids was excellent!

I get the sense that FBT are left to their own devices with it. Could be wrong but they seem tinpot enough to come up with that load of rubbish.
Normally a kit grows on me but the more I look at them the more I hate them, especially the home one. It must be the worst kit we've had since going back to "hoops". In fact, I'd say the 3 FBT home kits we've had are the 3 worst Rovers home kits in our recent history.
-
100% agree with that. Shame because the Avec ones were actually pretty decent. Especially the last kit we had, the solid hoops looked really smart and professional. The Avec away kits were excellent.
-
Think the release with the kids was really good though I think the music over it is up there with the most annoying I've ever heard.
As already stated by numerous people, I too haven't owned a Rovers shirt for years, these won't change that duck. Why can't they just aim for classic?
-

I have, and it doesn't. :silly:

I think the home kit looks great and no matter what lots of people on here we’re saying about this years kit loads have bought it. Just look around tmrw or Saturday.
BTW I don’t buy kits!
-
far to much like this seasons shirt only the girls that printed it must of been pissed. why buy that if you got one this season i hate it
-

not that they like this seasons shirt, they buy it to be up to date and support the club
-
I can't stand the hoops shirts never have and never will let's go back to a all red or white shirt
-
I’ve got no bad word to say about the FBT kit/clothing in terms of fit/comfort or quality, however the design of all 3 of the last 3 seasons have been the foulest Home kits Since our return to the hoops, including the weird shoulder pad edition.
-
Quite like them both surprised myself there

Yes I did say that, but our involvement will be the 3rd kit where we will have a free hand.
-
Can we call them drunk hoops?
I love the hoops - plain simple bloody red hoops...
BUT...
I don't mind the wavy hoops... Quite like the away kit too.

Looks like whoever put the hoops on the home shirt was doing it free hand too

That was my son
I'm v proud
He's just turned 2

Someone at the club must be approving these year-on year increasingly heinous offerings. They need to be named and, while not actually shamed, educated as to dangers of bestowing fashion icon status on Russell Grant's knitwear collection.
Bet FBT can't believe their luck. " You know that job lot of ' bloke dressed as a barber's pole?' we've only got rid of them....yes same clown that loved 'grown man in a bib'..we do them every time"
I am at this point reminded that I never buy a shirt and haven't owned one since the conventional red and white hoop v neck classic(with thin green hoop border) of 83/84, and thus my opinion is largely irrelevant.
I am also reminded that as I posted last season, good or bad (horrific in this case), we only have to endure a shirt for 9 months, before the new season's garment is unleashed.
-

Drunk hoops would be right as the designer and the person that signed it off must have had a gallon of mental strength cider each.
-
Here's to hoping we get some decent 3rd kits, and that it effectively replaces the away kit that looks like a training top!
-
It doesn’t matter what the 3rd kit looks like, there will be those that like it, those that don’t and those that will moan about it, just like the new home and away kits.

Like it or not, that is the kit for next season.
We will just have to get used to it.
-
I think 2016/17 was the apex of home kits design and it will never be toppled. I'm told by the club shop there is already requests to bring it back as a retro classic.
-
Yes, that home kit was really classy.
-
Home kit looks like a f**kin Twister from Eddie's ice-cream van.
-
Absolutely incredible that someone has been paid to come up with them.
-
Home shirt is shite and away shirt looks like a cheap training top.
-
The f**k?

That home shirt makes Marquis and McCullough look like they’ve got some sort of malignant growth in their lower-left abdomen.
Edit. And what in the name of Satan’s portion is McCullough hiding in his shorts?

I’m guessing “recent” doesn’t stretch back to the 1992/94 analogue TV interference pattern shirt?

-
I loved the zig-zag kits from that era. I've still got one, but it's shrunk a bit. Why do clothes shrink when they're left a long time in the wardrobe?
-
I remember a fashion designer doing a piece about football shirts in a Sunday paper in the early 90s. He said that Rovers shirt had the feel of old ladies’ knicker material.
-
I hope he wasn't relating to what's inside them.
-
OK, I know my opinion will count for nothing and I will be shot down for being old and irrelevant but as a Rovers fan of MANY years standing I'll put my two penneth in. Personally I just don't like hoops, to me they are for rugby teams and I can only think of QPR and Celtic as "top level" sides that have consistently stuck with them, (and possibly Reading?). Whatever, I'm happy to move with the times but please, if the majority are in favour of hoops let's stick to the original broad red and white style which at least has historic relevance, and not something that looks like it should be on the catwalk in Paris.
Can you imagine Alick Jeffrey or Darren Moore taking the field wearing this? Me neither.
Then again, I did love the African Violet.

It's not that long since we were all laughing at the terrible new Leeds badge. Is this karma?
-
It's not that long since we were all laughing at the terrible new Leeds badge. Is this karma?
Not really. These kits divide opinion - you can see there are plenty of positive comments here, albeit outweighed by the negative ones. The Leeds badge was universally derided, even by Leeds fans.

I was hoping we would go back to Green this season for our away kit.My issue is never with the design of kits themselves like Dickos rightly says you cant produce a kit that everyone likes..
My issue will always be with fan exploitation that comes with changing the kits every single year that people now accept is the norm..Gone are the days where they changed them every two years alternating between home and away..You looked forward to the kits coming out then.
Now it doesn't really matter because in 12 months time they will be gone anyway..
-
Is it true Lawlor and Williams were the only 2 who weren't at the kit launch?
-
I wouldn't wear a football shirt as I'm an adult and I don't play for the rovers, but each to their own.
However i dont like the home shirt, I think it may be time to go back to a mainly red shirt or a white shirt.
I don't mind the away kit to be fair, I've seen alot worse. Hopefully one day soon we'll start wearing green on our away strip again.
-
Is it true Lawlor and Williams were the only 2 who weren't at the kit launch?
No, it's not true. There were 11 players there, and two of those were goalkeepers.

I totally agree about green for our away kit. We have quite a bit of history regarding green and white; the famous Doncaster Boys team of the late 1950s, who jointly won the English Schools Shield final at Belle Vue in front of 15,000, always played in green and white. Also, Billy Bremner's Rovers teams usually played in green and white away from home.

And of course that day in West London...

I don't as I personally think anyone over the age of 18 in a football shirt looks a bit peculiar. That's before you talk about the cost and the ever changing styles.
If you want to wear one, that's groovy but it's not for me for the reasons above and many others.

I agree. It makes you look like a tit.
-
But if you only wear them at a football game surrounded by other football fans wearing them, how does it make you look daft?
My dad buys a new shirt every couple of seasons, only ever wears it to games and on holiday. I tend to only wear mine to games or if I'm lounging around the house. Haven't bought one in a few seasons as I've said mainly due to not liking the shoddy designs.

I never understand why anyone would wear a football shirt on holiday

Some of our players have for the last couple of weeks.😉

I don't mind the home kit, although wavy hoops are a bit odd, but better with white shorts.
The away kit however, not for me.

I’m proud to be a Rovers fan and happy for the world to know it. I was in a bar in Egypt and a load of West Ham fans bought me a few drinks as they had a soft spot for TLO Donny
I do draw the line at full kit though!

A tit's a rut however you dress it.
My main objection however with football shirts is the cost. £50 for something stitches in a thai/Vietnamese sweat shop and costs pennies to make. Walking round dressed as a bill board for Richard Branson and paying for the privilege.
It just puts me off.
-
I held back from commenting to see if they grew on me. The opposite has happened. The helterskelter is like we've melted, really shite. The 2nd top is an abomination - looks like some pyjama cricket top or worse, horrible.
The only positives I can see are we could get a bit of publicity for worst/weirdest kit of the year, the wavey hoops might feck with the vision of opposition teams, and full marks to the club re the launch.
Also, that enlarged white gap where the Virgin logo goes is wrong too, makes the shirt bottom heavy. The only way that would work is with a thick hoop at the top and very thin ones below it.

I'm not sure if you're being pedantic Glyn, but it's well publicised that Virgin/Stagecoach will no longer be operating the East Coast Main Line franchise that they currently operate. The story has been updated since I originally posted the link as more details have emerged so I will try to respond in a manner that reflects the article as it reads now.
If you would like me to spell out step-by-step how I arrived asking that question (not really saying "I think" anything, although I did use the word "presumably"), I will do so for you...
I feel like I have a basic understanding of it so please correct me if I’ve got it wrong.
Firstly, I'm not sure what you mean with regards to the track, because Network Rail manages the majority of track and infrastructure of most of the British rail network. As far as my understanding goes, this section of track is not an exception.
“Routes” are franchised out to public or private companies to operate – Stagecoach (90%) and Virgin Trains (10%) operate the East Coast franchise (London to Edinburgh/Leeds, via Doncaster)
Rolling stock that runs under this franchise bears Virgin Trains branding/livery.
Virgin Trains and Stagecoach are to no longer operate this franchise/route and it is to be operated by a public company instead, therefore no longer under the Virgin Trains brand.
The only trains branded as Virgin Trains currently passing through Doncaster are the ones that run on this route due to it being franchised to them and Stagecoach, as far as I understand.
Virgin Trains still operate the West Coast franchise (although under a legally and operationally separate entity) but none of the routes on this franchise pass through Doncaster, again, as far as I understand.
So (this is the bit that is just my logic) there won’t be any Virgin Trains running through Doncaster once the franchise is under control of a public company, because as it states in the link, Stagecoach/Virgin attempted to re-negotiate the contract with no success, and the service will be renamed LNER.
Therefore, to rephrase my original question – will Virgin Trains still be sponsoring Doncaster Rovers, when all of the routes under the management of, and trains bearing the branding of, Virgin Trains, operate on the opposite side of the country and seemingly none will pass through Doncaster.
If my understanding of any of the above is incorrect, I welcome your assistance in answering my question.

I wonder if this will affect shirt sponsorship - I know Virgin Trains still run (or at least put their branding to) the west coast franchise but presumably there won't be many trains bearing their brand passing through Doncaster when this happens?
Why not? That's just the track, nothing to do with the train service.
Not sure what your question is here Glyn.
I was asking why you think there won't be many Virgin trains going through Doncaster seeing as the link is only about the track ownership, not the service that runs on them.

I would guess they have already been produced.
-
Produced or not, if the sponsorship deal suddenly ends then wouldn't be advertising them on our shirts.
Virgin Trains losing the ECML contract probably means an end at some point soon to our deal with them as it was clearly the reason for them pursuing it.
It's okay saying maybe it'll be good if we don't have a shirt sponsor but in addition to the money it brings in for us the newly designed shirts would not look good with no sponsor as there's a big gap in the 'hoops' and to fit it in.

But at least people in the shirts wouldn't be advertising a bus company who thought it could fleece the exchequer and beardy t**t branson.

I despair, I really do. Do you not think that DRFC would have factored everything in to the ongoing situation? I would bet they have.

Dunno, you’d have thought that the club would have factored everything into loaning a player to a relegation rival, including a recall clause. Yet that didn’t happen. Perhaps they’re a bit more savvy these days though.

I'm talking about a commercial decision Nick, nothing to do with the loan of players, that's a managers decision.

Virgin Cross Country will still call at Doncaster as it did before it got the NE franchise.

They won't because Virgin CrossCountry hasn't existed since 2007.
Cross Country has been run and owned by Arriva since then.

Does anyone know who we're actually sponsored by?
Is it Virgin Trains East Coast AKA EAST COAST MAIN LINE COMPANY LIMITED (http://data.companieshouse.gov.uk/doc/company/04659708) - i.e. the part that won't exist as of June 24th?
Or is it Virgin Trains AKA West Coast Trains Limited (http://data.companieshouse.gov.uk/doc/company/03007940)?
Both have the same logos but are two different companies.
Maybe the new operator (LNER) will inherit the sponsorship agreement?

Hopefully not. As much as I love the rovers I don't want my tax going towards any football team

I doubt it will be much anyway.

Seems an odd thing to 'despair' at Martin.
I think our shirt sponsor ceasing their operations is a reasonable point for people to ask, speculate about. You might be in a position that enables you to know the ins and outs of this particular deal, but the rest of us aren't.
If Rovers have factored all this in, and there's nowt to worry about then great - but unless that is made public knowledge then surely you can see it's natural that people are going to be asking these pretty reasonable questions.
-
I would imagine it is highly unusual for a club to factor a company going bust (or similar) into a short sponsorship deal?
-
Didn't West Hams shirt sponsor go bust a few years ago? Some kind of airline? Sure they just played in shirts without sponsors for the rest of the season.

Hi Glen, yes you're right, a bit of an overreaction from myself, and I blame the stinking migraine I had last night! However the initial reaction from some, which I find disappointing, is that everything is a negative and that the Rovers are always 'behind the curve' somewhat.
It doesn't matter what the subject is the default position is we won't be good enough, or we'll take the cheap option, or something similar. It can be players, or budgets, or shirts, it really doesn't matter. I'm all for debate on any subject, but the negative position always holds sway on here.
The position with the ECML didn't come out of the blue, its been up for discussion for many months, and there was an issue which would have to be resolved one way or the other. The commercial team at DRFC are very good in the deals they do. I trust them to have everything in hand.
-

Why would it be highly unusual? It was common knowledge, and has been for months, that the ECML was having difficulties. Surely any business that had agreements with the main players would have an agenda item that covered such a circumstance?
I would find it highly unusual for them not to factor that in.

I don't really see how the reaction has been negative - just people asking how it might affect the sponsorship deal that's all, and one or two others commenting that it wouldn't be ideal for us to lose a sponsor. A pretty neutral set of points if you ask me.
I haven't seen anyone express an opinion on this thread that the club is at fault, isn't good enough, or has taken the cheap option.
It happens, and has happened to bigger clubs than Rovers. I think it was West Ham a few years ago who were sponsored by a company that went under so had to remove it from the shirts. (Edit - just realised someone else has mentioned this already)
-
Was it Newcastle who were sponsored by Northern Rock who then had to remove the sponsor because the bank went under.
-
No it just got changed to virgin money who bought northern for snip from the gov
-
Must've been West Brom then, I'm convinced a Premier League club with black and white stripes played with no sponsor at one point and since there's only two of them...

not black and white but I remember West ham covered their sponsor with squad numbers one season. Can't remember who the sponsor was though.

It appears to have happened to them twice: https://www.theguardian.com/business/blog/2015/jan/16/west-ham-united-faced-empty-chests-shirt-sponsor-alpari-bust
Alpari in 2015 (not sure if it was removed from shirts) and XL in 2008.

You're surely remembering Newcastle when Northern Rock collapsed. It did get changed to Virgin Money but I'm sure it was either just pasted over the old logo on the shirts for a time or they had to conceal the Northern Rock logo.
-
I'm convinced it was. I don't think it was for very long but I'm absolutely convinced Newcastle played a few games with no shirt sponsor.
-
It seems the wheel has turned full circle. It has been announced today that on the 24th June the East Coast Main Line will transition to be operated by LNER - London North Eastern Railway.
-
Terrible. That's saved me some money.

Sorry to be pedantic, mate, but West Brom play in navy blue and white stripes. Apparently Newcastle fans are proud to be the only true magpies of the Premier League.

Oh piss off. :P
