We should do a West Ham and get changed before we get there

We definitely shouldn't do this. Might as well do their team talk for them if we do that!

Hopefully Newport have the covers on the pitch. Other than that I can't see the match being off.

Meant to be a cold one tonight Karl, saying that should be ample time for the pitch to thaw out.

Here you go.

PREVIEW Newport County AFC vs Doncaster Rovers FC
Looking at the visitors

Five points clear at the top of the table and 14 points clear of the playoff places, that’s the reality for Doncaster Rovers fans this season as their team continue to lead the way in the table. They have a superb record of seven wins and two draws from the last nine games and have only been beaten five times also season, the same number of games that County have won. It will not come as a shock then that getting a win against the league leaders is going to be far from easy, however the playing surface at Rodney Parade is unlikely to allow Rovers to play the style of football they wish, and this may fall into County’s hands. John Marquis is their top scorer with 17 goals in 31 appearances so far this season whilst Liam Mandeville has 10 and Andy Williams has 9. It will be a tough test for County with Doncaster scoring an average of over two goals per game.

League Form
Newport County – L L L L L L D DW D     6 points
Doncaster Rovers – LW WDW W W W WD     23 points

Upcoming Milestones
Joe Day – 2 appearances for 175 career appearances
Joss Labadie – 4 appearances for 250 career appearances
Lenell John-Lewis – 1 goal for 50 career goals
Marlon Jackson – 2 appearances for 150 career appearances
Paul Bignot – 1 appearance for 175 career appearances
Scot Bennett – 5 goals for 25 career goals
Mark O’Brien – 3 appearances for 50 career appearances
Sean Rigg – 5 appearances for 400 career appearances

Doncaster’s record against County
Played 1 Won 1 Drawn 0 Lost 0 Goals For 2 Goals Against 0
Saturday 17th September 2016: Doncaster Rovers 2 – 0 Newport County

Last Meeting
Doncaster were the first side to prevent County from scoring in the league when they met for the first time in the middle of September. The defeat for County put them in the bottom three of the table and they have remained there since that day. Whilst they can’t get out of the bottom three this weekend, a win would lift them out of the bottom two and pile the pressure on Leyton Orient and Notts County, who play on Saturday.

Last Time Out
County’s unbeaten run stretched to four games when they got a point away at local rivals Cheltenham Town last Saturday. It was the home side who took the lead and it looked as though they were going to take all three points until Jaanai Gordon levelled for the Exiles in the third minute of added time to bring a point back to Wales. It may prove to be a valuable point as County are now three points from safety with a game in hand.

The Man in Charge
David Webb is the man in charge for this fixture with his assistants Andrew Hendley and Paul Hobday, the fourth official is Steven Plane. This is Webb’s tenth season on the list and he has taken charge of one County fixture before, the reverse fixture against Doncaster earlier this season. In his career he has had the whistle for 300 games and handed out 812 yellow cards at an average of 2.7 per game and he has sent players off on 36 occasions.

I know but that's not what I meant... Surely Newport would want to claim their history??

I would have thought they would have seen themselves as a continuation of the club that went bust in 1989. Rovers were effectively reformed in 1920, having ceased to operate during WW1. However the "new" club has always been seen as a continuation of the old one.

I saw a tweet from Newport's account that said they expected it to be on. There hasn't been much rain in that part of the world since Monday.

Although it's cold I don't think it will be cold enough to freeze the pitch.

County fan in peace
Just to put you guys in the picture
Yes, most of us regard ourselves as the same old club and we bought back the " county " bit to add to the reincarnated Newport AFC.
The pitch is absolute shite and the rugby do nothing to help , often playing in conditions that only Jacques Cousteau would feel at home in.
If it rains heavily on the day close to the kick-off the game will be postponed or abandoned as mistreatment of the surface soil in the close season has clogged the drainage.
Don't believe all the stories about the unwelcoming changing rooms although they may well be unwelcoming   :). This is because they are just rubbish and always have been ( they're rugger ones after all and they haven't mastered electricity yet ). I doubt anything more than a wet floor would be used to deter your northern tough guys. Portsmouth were upset but they're southern English Walter softies after all, it shouldn't worry you.
Now to more important things, lots of good old pubs just over the bridge from the ground and if you're very early lots of restaurants in Friars Walk just over the other bridge ( pedestrian bridge called the Millennium ) . We've got a few young idiots as per usual but trouble is extremely rare and you should find a warm welcome in the port.
Enjoy your visit but remember to leave the points behind, we need 'em, you don't.

Forecast at 9-00pm tomorrow 1 degree. Staying above freezing throughout the day so should be OK. But that pitch should be condemed.
It makes the pitches of the 1960's / 70's look like bowling greens.
