Copp's sublime skills
« on February 05, 2017, 09:44:23 am by Big MAC »
We all know Copps ability to bring a ball under control is awesome as is his dribbling but did anyone see his back heeled dinky chip over a defenders out stretched leg to Marquis(?)  near the South west corner. Worth the entrance fee just to see that,

The Morecombe fan that I took was absolutely gobsmacked with that.
Tongue in cheek I said that he's even better in training.

Brilliant piece of skill & the one where the ball came down with snow on it & he instantly controlled it.

The club should make a video of Copps fantastic skills over the years. Not only does the bloke deserve such an accolade, it would sell like hot cakes.

Totally agree with that BB. You wonder whether enough of his tricks have been captured to do him justice.

He wasn't at his bed yesterday but I love that he still does these things. He did another on in the first half when he brought another bomb down on the move.

Also the slide rule pass to Marquis for the goal was pretty impressive.

Needs to learn how to take a corner kick. He hit one straight out of play yesterday (not the first time this season).

Third time in three home matches. Corners should be swung in not out!

Not if you want an out-swinging corner 🙂

Love the Copps - Marquis partnership. Another cross from Copps, another goal from Marquis.

Wonder what the stats are on these two. Reminiscent of Copps - Sharp.

I know we all hype Coppinger up as routine, but his first touch is actually world class.

Brilliant CIM, thanks for that.

Took my breath away when Copps did that yesterday.

Well done CIM, where did you get the video clip from?  I never thought that I would see that proof of skill after I watched it live. Cheers

Stole it off the 10 minutes highlights on roversplayer. Sure the club don't mind.

I love the way the defender looked back at Coppinger almost as if to say "how the f**k have you done that?"

We all went "wow, fantastic" at that back heel.
I agree that his first touch on a regular basis is world class ( not always - before someone comes on).
As for the corners, good grief, to have a go because one now and again isn't perfect just shows how some fans have to moan at the slightest thing.
Most of us will remember the ball Copps pulled out of the sky a few weeks ago, well I emailed the club to ask for it to be highlighted on the DRFC website and didn't get a response.
Someone on here asked me to send him a copy of my email and he would chase it up with the media department.
I did but still haven't had a response.
Thanks CiM for posting that clip, well done.

Technically sublime. His end product has stopped him making even more of his career though.

And thats been to our advantage.I wonder who was it who wanted him so bad for us,at the begining? Was it DP or JR or someone in the scouting network?I recall we wanted him but someone made us wait,Exeter when non-league I think.

There was one in the first half that was worthy of as much praise as the back-heel and it probably went un noticed by a lot. Copps was wide out right in front of East Stand

A ball was played to him maybe from Lawlor - and arrived shin high (his shin height not mine) and he killed its pace and played it past their defender all in one and I was totally impressed

"He stood out like a Goth in a snowstorm" was the comment made sometime last Season I think in a 250 Word Report to describe a piece of skill he produced in a dire Match - and though his Team mates are massively improved since then both collectively and individually he still has the knack to "shock" with outrageous bits of skill such as this

I said that around his 500th anniversary. They ought to produce an anniversary DVD and it could include all his best bits, his goals, his story. Be a shame if they didn't do anything to commemorate his achievement.

Would love to join the "Copps" love in but, with the exception of a couple of glimpses of his genius, I thought he was one of our worst players on Saturday. Robbed in possession on numerous occasions, unable to execute simple 5/10 yard passes, poor crosses (with the exception of the goal), not one of his best games IMHO.......................still one of my top five all time Rovers players though!!

:):):)

But there's a difference between 'better' and 'favourite' surely? I have 4 Rovers who I prefer to Copps - though only one of them was anywhere near as skillful as he and one of them was a plain donkey tbh. A fab donkey mind :)

Cheers

Copps would be in my best eleven but that doesn't mean there were ten better than him.

The bloke is a genius. You should have heard the gasp when he did that piece of control on Saturday. Made the whole game worthwhile.

Took me months and months in me grans back yard to teach  him how to do that when he 1st
signed for rovers and he was in digs.

Glad to see all that hard work pay off
