Retford Town have ambitions to be in the Conference in 5 years, that will take some doing.

Been taken over by the Mansfield town owner and one call. Bought the club and the ground. They have been awful for the last 3-4 years and next season will be in the central midlands division which is step 10 level I think, ironically in the same division as the other side in Retford, Retford FC.

I don't know the ins and outs but Retford Town no longer exist, and there is now a Retford FC that plays on the old British Rail ground. Retford United play at Cannon Park on the outskirts, a few years back they had an injection of cash and had one decent season in the Conference North, nearly getting in the play offs before the money ran out and they've gone back down the pyramid since then.

Many years ago the old Retford Town had a decent side and used to play at a stadium next to the river, this was knocked down ages ago and is now a Morrisons.

Retford United were paying players stupid money 10 or so years ago ,Neil Harvey who played upfront with Jonathan Forte for Barbados was on over £300 a week plus a goal bonus and a free flat.
