Lets talk about the Bradford City game
« on September 05, 2020, 12:21:27 pm by selby »
Another cup game to be played before the league season starts, and another game where the players will perform in front of no spectators.
Bradford start their season today (Saturday) v Bolton Wanderers away which at this time of the year is as we know in the lap of the gods whether it will be played. On the Bradford forum even their own supporters have no real idea of what team they will put out for the Bolton game, having no real idea who their players are at the moment, the goalkeeper being made skipper as he is the only player they deem with the experience and standing to do the job, so both the game at Bolton and against us on Tuesday could be classed as somewhat experimental.
Hopefully we will get more useful information after their game today to assess the opposition for Tuesday, and hopefully our management will be able to watch the game to do so even if it is on ifollow due to not being able to attend.
We ourselves are something of an experimental side, hopefully we will be even stronger with a new influx of loan and permanent signings next week which looks likely.
I do hope we show some ambition to actually do well in the competition for a change and pick a strong competitive side to start the game, put the result to bed and then mix it up, although that is in an ideal world.
One thing I am happy about in our younger players on the fringes is that in my opinion their standard, physicality, and ability to play at league level is better than it has been in the past, and hopefully they can push on to challenge for the shirt as of right over the coming season.
There are so many unknowns that to add a lot more is difficult, one plus may be that watching on ifollow could attract a bigger crowd than would attend physically under normal circumstances, hopefully Bradford can get a good result at Bolton to encourage their fans to log on.
    So, what do you think?
What sort of team would you pick?
do you expect any sightings of players we have not seen or heard of before?
Are you likely to purchase a viewing ticket when you are normally unlikely to attend these games in person?
Obviously next Saturday's game is more important, but like me would you like to see us actually have a go in this competition?
Please feel free to have your say, everyone welcome, hopefully Idler will have some input as well as any Bradford fans.

I’m not sure you’ll learn much from our game with Bradford today (assuming we don’t call it off!! ;-) ) because our team is totally new and Bradfords not complete but I wish you luck for the new season and can at least make the play offs I still think you were robbed of last year.

Sure DM will start with his strongest available side. If nothing else this is our last chance to play a competitive game before the league kick off.

Will be watching on i player.  I intend to watch all the games until we can go to the match.

A good win and confidence builder for Bradford today, I bet Bolton wish they hadn't played the game.

According to reports any trialists including Butler will have been told their fate yesterday, so if in training today would have probably been offered a contract.
Just what the qualifying period after signing for a club is to be able to play in this competition is I don't know, but could be a factor in what team we pick for tomorrow's game assuming we do agree terms with any of the trialists.
Likewise with any loan players who could have arrived we the supporters are unaware of.

Bradford were the better team Selby and deserved to win. You could tell this was eleven who had never played a competitive game before but there was enough promise to be positive for the coming season once the players gel. That said Bradford weren’t great so you should see them off easily enough.

Frankie, I have been around long enough to not take anything in football as a given. Bradford have always been competitive against us and we basically will be in the same position as yourselves being a team with a lot of new players, and we have a long history of losing cup games to teams from a lower division or league position in this competition.
I am just hoping for the best and a good performance showing the players are gelling and keen to do well.

It looks like they are giving some of their younger and less used so far players a run out tonight. Clayton Donaldson plenty of experience up top though.

I think Gomes is really looking like a good find, both him and Taylor have started the season really well

Are we giving it 100 percent, or treating it like a practice match?

Not quite in top gear yet but don’t forget this is the second competitive game in 6 months..

Mediocre is a bit unfair.
