Youth Cup report Rovers u18s v Coventry Sphynx

Above Hopefully is a fantastic report on the youth cup game by Andrew I am hoping you can get and enjoy.
The lads gave everything and can take pride in coming out on top against a big strong side, on not a great pitch and sustaining injuries during the match, and although not against a league team the Coventry team contained quite a few lads who had already played in men's football at a good regional level for the clubs first team.
Not the usual technical game of academy football but full blooded cup football which they matched and overcame,  A great result and hard earned and credit to the team who's defence had to withstand a real physical battle.
Another thing to consider about how good this result was for the boys is that quite a few of the Rovers team are first year scholars at the young end of the qualifying age group whereas the opposition definitely looked at the older end and were an allround bigger side which suited the heavy conditions on the night.

The present group of youth players at every club in the UK are having  to cope with disruption to their academy career  which ultimately will effect the most important start to a potential career as a player.
All will have missed game time already, first year scholars starting later because of the first lock down, a big miss in formative years to their experience when cancelled fixtures are included.
Second year students missing the chance to impress just when coaches and management have to make the decision whether they are good enough for a professional contract.
It would be easy for them to be distracted by events, so credit to the team work and effort they showed in this game.

Yes Graingrover, and bloody good at it it is well worth following and reading his blog for local games such as Rossington, Armthorpe and the youth team.
