So was I!

The daft bugger in the back of my car had an inflatable referee holding a red card hanging out of the window all of the journey to the game. I remember driving past a pub with its outside area full of Rovers fans and sounding the horn to the tune of pap pap, pap pap pap, pap pap pap pap, to which hundreds of fans responded with "ROVERS".

That was a truly surreal experience.

So was I and following on with the surreal :

I came out to get a bus back to Hanley / Stoke City centre and walking with a group of Rovers Fans someone asked (and this was an hour or so after the finish) who got the Winner ? Nobody including me seemed to know - and it did not seem to matter and were venturing "suggestions". I said it might have been Blundell but said - dont think it was though cos I don't remember the bandaged head in my minds replay. Then someone said it was Tierney (quite indignantly) and then we were all happy. Must have been 15 to 20 people !

I then made it back to Centre to meet Mrs DW as she had traveled just for the shopping as she regularly used to do. When we met she said how did it go ? Rovers won I said !

4 simple words that covered a multitude of emotions over the previous years - the Relegation - Richardson et al - and the uppermost ELATION like I had never felt before. We were BACK where we belonged and "had survived"

What does that mean then she asked - to which I replied "well instead of going shopping in Leigh, Telford and Lancaster you will now be able to go shopping in York , Lincoln and Darlington" - and we were both delighted BUT for entirely different reasons !

14 years on - wow ! What a ride !

I was one of the aforementioned fans shouting "Rovers" outside the pub at Uttoxeter. It was brilliant watching a stream of cars, coaches & minibuses decked out in red and white.
