Let's talk about the Harrogate Town game
« on August 04, 2023, 05:42:38 pm by selby »
Wolfie very kindly reminded me about this game, and our little chat before the games we contribute on here and kindly offered to open up the subject I honestly had forgotten all about being in the midst of house renovations.
So excuse me for ducking out for this game I have little knowledge of their and admittedly our teams so would like some of you to take the bull by the horns and educate me and write your thoughts on this game and hopefully Wolfie comes to the table and gives it a good go.
All I will say is we might need patience with the number of new signings, manager, and tactics, and game management, but I am looking forward to the season, I think we will be stronger as the season goes on, and some of our younger talent will flourish and attract other clubs.
Wishing you the supporters, all the players and management team the very best for the season, and the club as a whole singing from the same song sheet and going forward to better times and things.
Have a great enjoyable season everyone, and I hope we get away with a win and a good start to the season tomorrow.

Buzzing for the game tomorrow, the starting lineup thread on here shows how much strength in depth we have and how many options McCann has - Wood, Olowu, Ironside probably the only nailed on outfield starters. Options on the bench in some of Sotona, Taylor, Hurst, Miller and Roberts to bring on to attack tired legs. 2-0 Rovers tomorrow.

I personally would like to see Faulkner play a part at some point, no problems with Wood and Olowu starting but we need to bring the lad on, the old way was if the game looked won give the youngsters some minutes for experience, and it would be nice to get in that position. It will not be easy though, they gave us a lesson last year, and their manager will not want a repeat of their poor start to last season.
The crux will come with our forward play, we need to improve immeasurably from last season, when we were the most negative side going forward I had seen for years, no pace or invention  at all, and some decent defenders made to look poor at times with the ball continually returning to them at the back, self inflicted mayhem.
Hopefully we show more attacking flair in midfield aided by more movement and ability to turn the ball over when not in possession.
Anyway that was the past, let's hope the new manager get's the rewards he deserves for instilling his tactics and the way he wants to play on the front foot on the team, a refreshing change from the second half of last season, when we had poor fair served up and very little entertainment.

Agreed, lets just hope the additional crowd don't expect miracles straight away and then end up getting on the players backs early doors.

This new squad need to be given time to bed in and get to know each other and the system.

Hoping for a good start to build the confidence of both the team and the support.

Can't wait its been a long time coming to see us competitive and on it.

The only dampener (pun intended) on the crowd will be the forecasted weather. It’s due to be hiss it down tomorrow afternoon and it may put a few ‘floaters’ (no pun intended) off going.

Personally, I havn’t looked forward to the start of a season for a number of years now. We’ve had a decent pre-season, without being spectacular, and I can only see things improving.

If you’d told me at any point last season how giddy I’d be for the first game of this one I’d have said you’d gone mad. I’m actually going early to have a pint from the new caterers before the match for the first time lol.

I believe the nailed on outfield starters are Olowu Wood Senior Bailey Broadbent Rowe Molyneux and Ironside. Not sure how fit Sterry and Hurst are yet. So RB and   Left forward are up for grabs

Thinking that the starting lineup will be the same has the game against Sheffield Wednesday. Looked very strong that night. Then fill bench with Bobby, sterry, maxwell, deji, Miller, biggins, close,.

One strong match day squad

Great to see this Thread and apologies that I didn't get back to introduce it on Selby's behalf

In my defence I try not to drink on weekdays but go on home brew and other stuff in Garage. This starts at 5pm and I can't remember end time

Defence 2 my intro would have been rubbish compared to Selby's usual depth , analysis and style so I will contribute just this :

It's been a long long couple of Seasons with very little to engage with . Unfortunately I also chose the wrong Season to "collect" Grounds and ticked off Harrogate , Salford , Newport , Swindon, Sutton , AFC Wimbledon , Stevenage, Barrow & Crawley.

I left Crawley till the end to epitomise just how gruelling last Season was. Original game called off on a Saturday and rearranged for a Tuesday night. You get first class Travel , Bingo , service and camaraderie on Supporters Club Coaches but 5 and a half hours there and 6 back is still an ordeal because

a) you know the Team will try but will be found wanting and the game won't be the least bit interesting and
b) I didnt really want to be there.

I take my hat off to those that do this every week of every Season and to Paul and Len and all the others who facilitate this

At the end of last Season I wasn't remotely interested in going even to home games but suddenly a few shoots of green appeared

We have GM back , we've made promising looking signings and we are poised on the edge of the first game of a new Season.

They are usually special anyway , but some elevate above others like Derby , like Orient and for me yes Harrogate has gone into that category.

I'm confident enough of a win , and I'm confident of a good Season. I can sit back with all my interest back and put my trust in the Manager and Staff to deliver

I just hope we get a game as the only blot on the horizon seems to be a week's worth of rain before KO. What a bizarre possibility for a game in August

I’m trying to temper my excitement with the thought that every time I get really excited for a big home game we bugger it up and all the fair weather fans say ‘I told you they were rubbish’ and we’re back to the doldrums again.

But I can’t help myself. Everything is in place to have a good crack at the season and a new team is being built by a new manager. And we’ve got hooped socks with DRFC down the back. Come on Rovers! 3-0 today. Joint top of the league at 5pm.

Looking at the weather the met office is saying that by 4pm the rain stops yet the BBC says in continues all day so we will see. We all hope for a good game. I watched Sheffield Wednesday game last night and under these new rules there were more yellow cards extra injury time in both halves. It appeared to break up the game. Also why are there 9  subs in the Championship yet league 1/2 can only have 7. Gives a better choice for the 5 you want to use. Any way let’s start well and achieve 3 points.

Lots of free parking around Porcelenosa Inc Sidings Court, the road that leads to Nuffield Gym.

Just seen on other channels there are less than 500 tickets left on the South Stand. Will be fantastic if it's close to a sell out.

Also try Wisconsin Drive. You turn right before McDonalds / Lakeside and then 1st right

Lots of street parking and lots of Office Block car parking.

Personally I have never parked in one of the private car parks but nobody has complained about them , re getting a Ticket etc , and some have parked there since Stadium opened

McCann's first game at Southend was tremendous - goals, 100% effort and a real pleasure to watch. In fact it was book-ended with that wonderful display at The Valley.

Although we are rightly trying to contain extravagant expectations it is an opportunity to reverse the Schofield trend of playing our worst against the poorer teams. With Wrexham facing MK Dons and Stockport up against Gillingham and most of the other promotion favourites away, 3 points in such a fixture seems  a "must".

At time of building my Seating plan says 2276 for just the straight bits of SS

Plus another 811 to the middle of each corner

It's a guide I suppose ?

They won't sell it out completely as they'll leave a buffer, so folk will be guided to the East and West.

There's bound to be some teething problems as we all get used to the new ticketing systems. I hope the club will have staff on hand at the ticket office to help folk buy their tickets, rather than having to queue up.

Will be interesting to see if there are any queues come 2:45.
