If I'm correct, that was the season the Mariners got promoted under Lawrie McMenemy, after the Rovers had ridiculously sacked him, and replaced him with the useless Maurice Setters.

1978 / 79 saw Grimsby promoted to the old third division along with Reading , Wimbledon and ourselves .Grimsby were starting to put together a really good side back then and were promoted the following year too to the second division , the Moore brothers , Joe Waters , Mike Brolly , Kevin Drinkall and Tony Ford .Huge memories of some titanic battles with the Mariners back then .Sad to see them drop out of the EFL once again , something I'm at a loss to understand , bigger club are Grimsby than many people realise .
That was the first time I had ever been on telly - I was sat on the wall behind the goal, facing the cowshed at half time.

I was at the game and it was definitely on The Big Match on Sunday.I’ve just contacted someone who probably has got footage, I’ll let you know when he replies.
Who was that diminutive Grimsby winger in the mid-late 80’s who always used to torment? Somebody Gilbert? It was Gary Childs...

Frustrating because I'm convinced it's out there.
