Deadline Day Thread
« on January 31, 2022, 08:57:42 am by Guernsey Exile »
Thought be good to keep all in one place....

Expecting one in today but I like to think we will get a surprise of two to add further depth.

Ed Williams doesn't have to happen today as he is going to the US.

Be interesting to see what our rivals do

Time will tell but I think its been a great window. Never imagined we'd get so many players in.

( sarcasm alert ) I think we have the kids from Netto to thank for annoying our CEO so much that he only then decided to do something about the situation .

We won’t hear much from them until about 4 when they are home from school

If it is who we think then his  Olypique Lyonnaise B is essentially playing in the fourth division of French football that is the Highest League they due allowed to play in as a means of developing their reserves and their youth academy .Most teammates  are of his age 21 or younger .The opponents are either League One reserve teams  too or semi pro man’s teams …Grasse , Martigues etc .I saw many games at this level when I lived near  Nice .If I had to sum it up I would say pretty football , tactically clever ,physically less than English football at our level but still very athletic .

Great news. A young un with bags of potential who needs developing into the rigours of nitty gritty football. Along with Mipo these young exciting forwards will need the senior pros to help them as much as possible to flourish at DRFC.

Note, we're still waiting for International clearance since last week when he arrived. Must be a formality surely.

We knew it was coming but this is potentially a very canny bit of business. Here's hoping he can make a difference, possibly not this season but next in the men's game.

As an aside when was the last player we signed from a foreign club? Not as a free agent like I believe Sadlier was from the Irish league, but actually a "proper" transfer?

Good to see after the debacle at Spurs and Lyon, he has finally signed for a big club.

Note the Announcement from Lyon confirms there's a 30% sell on clause. Guess that's not unusual these days, particularly for a player with great potential.

Also note Hoden is not ruling out the possibility of other permanent business should an exceptional opportunity arise.

Madger Gomes in August 2019 was our last signing from outside UK and Ireland.

Have to say very good signing on paper. One for the future and surprising that others weren't in for him. Young lad as well so room for development. And very good to tie him into a 2.5 year deal.

Might depend on international clearance arriving in time?

Think he signed at the weekend but not in time for Saturday’s game so not announced until today

Even the biggest clubs run out of time to exchange deal forms.

Well, I have to say that the tone of this thread is much better than at this time last year.
Well done Rovers.

In two transfer windows we have signed 13 permanent players with different level of contract length. We’ve had 8 players on loan over two transfer windows. We’ve had a consistent 8/9 players injured for months. We are still in the relegation zone and it looks hard to get out.
I would say it’s been the busiest if not fruitful two transfer windows for years.

Within that as well, we've also held on to Smith and Galbraith.

I agree we’ve kept those two but over two managers we’ve played 28 games won 5 drawn 4 lost 19 and GD -32. We hope these new players and any returning players can improve our situation. Then we can judge if this window has been better worse than the summer. Performances have improved but we must see it in the results.
