Excellent program on R4 tonight about the similarities between now and 100 years ago. No media organisation does this sort of intelligent stuff anywhere near as well as the BBC.

The bit that jumped out at me.

The Tories dominated Westminster for the next generation. But the country became far more left wing, so that by the 1940s, we'd embraced a massive leftward move in economics and social attitudes. They were talking about the likelihood of the same thing happening now, with hitherto left wing ideas like nationalisation, Govt spending and the zero Carbon agenda likely to dominate the next 20 years, as Keynesian economics, the rise of the Unions and, eventually, improved living standards for the working class did last century.
