Peter Davies & the council!!!

Doncaster Council meets to settle budget row

Peter Davies wanted to push through cuts in council tax funded by savings
Doncaster Council meets later in a bid to agree spending plans for the next year - a week after the elected mayor's budget proposals were rejected.

Mayor Peter Davies's plans for a 3% reduction in council tax funded by spending cuts of £18m in 2010/11 were thrown out by councillors last Tuesday.

An alternative budget, which would see a 2.95% council tax rise, was proposed by the management scrutiny committee.

The rival plan would include extra investment in children's services.

Opponents of Mr Davies need a two-thirds majority at Tuesday's council meeting to override any revised budget he proposes and impose their own.

'Inadequate leadership'

They cleared that hurdle when councillors at last week's full council meeting censured Mr Davies on a 36-11 vote.

They passed a motion which said: \"The elected mayor and cabinet have failed the people of Doncaster by not being a driving force in taking Doncaster forward and having inadequate leadership to improve Doncaster now and into the future\".

Doncaster Council has faced sustained criticism in the last 12 months, first over the deaths of seven vulnerable children in the town and then over the Edlington attacks, which led to a public apology from officers.

The Audit Commission is so concerned about the way the council has performed over the last two years it is to due to conduct an inspection.

What is with the council on Donny!! Absolutely useless!!

What is the point in us having a Mayor in place if every decision he makes is just completely over-ruled everytime!! We are just meant to look like a complete joke of a town all the time because of our shite council!!

The council are just another bunch of trumped up politicians who put there own interests first, they were just as obstructive with Winter and it's interesting to see he's come out in support of the Mayor. There's no wonder this country is in the state it's in, no one gives a shit.

The bottom line is, the council was democratically elected by the people of Doncaster and therefore we can`t complain, the only way out is to think long and hard about who the people of Doncaster want to represent them next time aroound

I voted in Peter Davies because I thought he would do right by the people of Doncaster, which he clearly is by wanting to cut council taxes by 3% but the money hungry politicians have no interest in that and instead want to increase them by nearly 3%! The council wastes and wastes money on pointless projects like that pile of shite in Conisbrough and as soon as a man like Peter Davies comes a long with a cost cutting plan they have no interest in that and instead want more money out of us. Bloody Disgrace!!!

What percentage of the electorate have actually given these people their vote? How many of those who did bother to vote know anything about these people and their policies and agendas? Not many, they don't have that much of a democratic mandate.

The only one who a few people may be aware of in Doncaster and might have some idea about what they stand and might even have voted for because of his policies rather than his political affiliations is Peter Davies.

It doesn`t matter what percentage of the electorate voted for them, they can`t be held responsible for the people that didn`t vote (which includes me)everyone over the age of 18 has a right to vote or not as that may be the case. The council got in by receiving the majority of the votes cast, the people that didn`t vote (like me) cannot complain when things happen that they don`t like
