Nou camp or camp nou
« on March 09, 2017, 05:35:09 pm by not on facebook »
Since I was a whipper snapper it was nou camp and still is today in my book.

But at sometime in the last few years I kept on hearing it called camp nou.

First time I heard camp nou was from a trolley dolly sports women on the BBC I recall. It turned my head and I just put it to the treacle making a mistake.

How wrong was I as it seemed more than enough were at it calling it camp nou from both sides of the fence.

After reading reports on the Barca 6-1 it seems nou camp was the mostly used term today.

Why was it changed to camp nou by some?

It's official name has always been Camp Nou, even though it's often reffered to as the Nou Camp

So I have to reverse my question then to why did it go from camp nou to nou camp?

In Spanish as in French and Italian the adjective comes after the noun so instead of Red Wine in Spanish it's Vino Tinto and in French Vin Rouge so it should be Camp Nou for the same reason.

They do also say Paree San Jerman which is also as it should be. Not sure why you are getting hung up on this stuff. A rose by any other name ?

Camp Nou means new stadium and when the Olympic stadium was built that became the new stadium. I think that was the explanation given at the time.

They obviously don't want to make people associate them with Sir Jimmy! ;)
