Title: Gary Brabin
Post by: Torrevieja Rover on March 17, 2024, 10:12:46 am
Does anyone recall Brabin scoring a mid air volley at Belle Vue from 25 yards or so?

I cant find any footage or a report anywhere, not sure if i just imagined the whole event.

Brilliant thanks, I'm also unsure on the opponent but a night time game does ring a bell.

I was there. It’s was at Town End although beyond that I can’t remember so much.

1994 to 1996 in total 11 goals. I'll scour through my scrapbooks. Hopefully I'll find a match report. If so I'll scan it and email a copy to you. Regards Ray  (aka bradford exile)

Was that not Paul Birch? Or did we keep f**king Wigan right up with screamers?

28/02/97 , it was a Friday, we won 2-0, Graeme Jones played for them. There’s a website that gives you results from years ago, any fixture

I felt like the Brabin volley was away from home, but of course I could be wrong there. Fulham rings a bell, but I could be confusing it with the time he got sent off for jumping up with his arm out.

Just looked up that fixture in an old Rothmans
Rovers team was
Dean Williams
Harvey Cunningham
Darren Esdaille
Darren Moore
Ian Gore
Paul Birch
John Schofield
Martin MacDonald
Aide Mike
Colin Cramb
Simon Ireland
Sub
Lee Warren replaced Paul Birch
Scorers
Colin Cramb 25
Aide Mike 46

A fortnight later we won away at Cardiff with famous Darren Utley half way line shot.
We used 39 players that season, some very sparingly

Think that was the game where I personally asked Kerry Dixon at a public meeting at the Park Hotel why Paul Birch wasn’t playing and he said that he wasn’t picking the team and confirmed it was Richardson. He stated he would ask Richardson on behalf of the fans to play Birch & from memory little Birchy ran the game with a man of the match performance.

There was a great game that season, think it was midweek, where Ian Gore scored twice late in game to get us a draw. Forget who we were playing but that was a superb game. Probably in front of 2,000.

think Jones had just scored a hat trick in each of his last two games and was expected to score another against us that night.

Our 3rd defeat of the season was on the 16th of December against Colchester in front of a crowd of 2460, and we were 3rd in the League. Now you get posts on here when the attendance drops below 6500, I think some people need a slight reality check

I remember we were flying. Think we lost 3-1 at Plymouth when right up in the mix and sort of fell away after that?

Apologies to ChrisBlackcomeback, sounds as you were right after all, that Brabin scored a screamer against Wigan, although as i said Cramb did also, a couple of seasons later.

That 1994/95 season started so well but we fell away when we started to sell our best players, in Swailes and Lawrence.

Beat Scunny though 5-0 at their place.

Which was nice.
