Probably struggled since the bus terminus was moved from Christchurch, those bus drivers and clippies spent a fortune in there!

It is hidden within the Tesco thread to be fair, I thought it might merit it's own thread

They are not competitively priced. Nice sarnies though never the less.

What a great shame, Coops is so much better than Greggs.

Sandwiches and coffee is a very competitive area to operate in these days, apart from Greggs there's Subway, Costa, Starbucks and all the other coffee chains. All the supermarkets have convenience stores doing sarnies too.

Clippies! Showing your age there, Filo.

"Butler - get that bus out!"

Bad news for those who worked for a Doncaster institution. When i lived there my local 'coopies' was the Carr House Road branch, always loved the custard slices

And back in Donny Grammar days went to the one near Chtist Church, a bit risky as in those days it was against school rules to eat in the street while wearing school uniform.
Having said that my favourite bakers was Sleafords  in the Market Place who provided wonderful Curd Tarts.i guess there may be others on here who have picked up a tart in that part of town.

Just before my mum died she was extolling the virtues of a fabulous new sandwich shop in the 'Arndale' called.................Greggs. surely a sign of things to come.

Real shame... A little piece of my heart will always be in there, I used to love my 'Friday Ploughmans' back in the day.

We also used to stock up prior to getting the bus at Waterdale and heading to whatever far flung place Rovers were playing in that day. A tuna ploughmans that had marinaded on the bus all day was a rare treat for the journey home.

Here's hoping the shops that are staying open last the course

Has there been any mention of the Thorne "branch"?

There are one or two in Leeds and one outside of Morrisons at Girlington, Bradford.
I suppose they will go being a long way from the bakery.

They've got shops up here on Teesside as well.

I used to love their corned beef slice - a whole slice was about a foot long and they would cut it to the size you wanted! I wanted it all......

They also have one in Skegness as well. Shame if it goes as they do the best pasties in my humble pastry munching opinion

List of who's staying open and who's closing, seems a bit strange that a few far flung ones are staying open and local ones are closing, it seems a very strange list.

It dos seem a strange list. I never realised that they had so many  branches. I remember that they had a team in the Donny Sunday League in the seventies.

No mention of the North East ones!
There are 2 in Stockton, 1 in Yarm and 1 in Eaglescliffe that I know of but none of them appear on the closing or staying open lists?

Is Cooplands (Doncaster) a different entity to Cooplands?
One of the articles refers to Cooplands (Doncaster) going into administration but doesn't mention the shops in the North East?

The Cooplands logo on the shops up here is the same as that in Donny but could they be run by a different company such as  Cooplands (North East) for example?

Yes they are different entities

Said on Look North the Scarborough based Company is not affected at all

The ones staying open (like mine in Cantley) are probably the ones not up against Greggs or any other competition. I guess that may change if rivals open stores nearby

Never quite found sarnies that match the cooplands ones! Cheese and ham ploughmans with onions and salad cream/mayo - best sarnies in the world! Sadly over-priced though! Was always a special treat as a kid arriving home to find mum had done a 'cooplands trip' for iced fingers, flapjacks and lumps of chocolate concrete! Ironic really as I'm a savoury fan as opposed to cake fan - but cooplands always had that little bit 'extra!'

Their vanilla slices and egg custards are fantastic. I was gutted when I thought they may be disappearing for good.

I also used to love the gingerbread; Witches around Hallowe'en, Santas at Xmas, Bunnies at Easter. Icing for eyes and a very thick layer of chocolate for the hats/ears. They ruined it when they started covering the buggers in fudge icing instead. Likewise they spoiled the butties when they changed from iceberg to poncey, bitter, spiky lettuce. I used to love a cheese salad jumbo with onions and salad cream!

Egg custards, sausage rolls and gingerbread. The food of my youth. Bloody marvellous all of it.

I still can't resist an egg custard. Have to resort to Greggs though......

the past year or so the one in Armthorpe has been doing a hot pork, absolutely stunning. Always sells out. Love a good Cooplands what a shame.

I see Subway has been mentioned. For me that is horrible food, massively over rated.

When I was a kid, my mum would always take me into the one in Waterdale on the way back to the Southern Bus Station and I'd always choose one of those green frog buns.

The only pic I could find online was this kid with a half eaten one.

We used to go to the one at the back of the Gaumont, near Ray Harrisons shop, every Saturday afternoon in the early 60's after swimming at The Old Baths, upstairs for our tea
