I never could get used to seeing Jimmy Greenhoff in red shirts. He was a fixture at Stoke City and then suddenly legged it up the M6. It just never looked right! Good player though.

BobG
As I am from Leeds and didn't move to Doncaster until 1975 I used to watch Jimmy Greenhoff play for Leeds United in the sixties.
He played in Leeds first ever Cup Final the League Cup against Arsenal in 1968 and also the first major trophy win for the club.
Alan (sniffer) Clarke replaced him and Leeds sold him to Birmingham City then went to Stoke City and finally Man U
He used to work his socks off but didn't score many goals and he became a more complete player when he went to Stoke City.

I don't remember him before he was at Stoke Campsall. I suspect I must be a tad younger than you.  When I was growing up he was always a Stoke player and that's what he still is in my memory. It just somehow never sat right with me when he was at Old Trafford. I never even knew he was at the Blues though!

That Stoke City side was a damn good team btw: the dying days of Gordon Banks. Jimmy Greenhoff, Denis Smith at centre half, Alan Hudson in the middle after his time in the Chelsea fleshpots and I think they'd even swiped Geoff Salmon from the Blades. Mike Bloor and Pejic too - they could play alright as well. Remember when the roof blew off their main stand? I was there the first match after. Place looked weird. Bloody good match though. It was against Man City in the FA Cup and they were a good side too. I've just looked it up. 28th January 1976! Christ....

Jimmy Greenhoff was unlucky that at the time most clubs had a first eleven spine that played most games in a season. He was sub in a lot of games but never going to replace Jones or Clarke on the first team sheet.

Acccording to Ian McMahon's excellent book 'The Only Way is Up' documenting the 1998-99 season, we were all set to give a trial to Mason van Basten who had been playing for Miami fusion, was related to Marco and claimed to have family living in Doncaster

He didn't show up.

For Rovers, apart from the Snodins and Roberts I can also think of:

Glen/Steve Humphries
Steve/Dave Wignall
Neil/Andy Campbell
Darren/David Esdaille
Matt/Joe Mills
Paul/Jack McKay

and way back there were the Keetleys, 4 of which played for Rovers - Tom, Frank, Harold and Joe Keetley

Am I right in thinking 3 of the Keetley brothers actually played in the same game Dutch?

The answer is yes, with two different sets of three

I stand corrected.

To be honest I only even thought they were cousins because I thought I remembered somebody on here mentioning it, but evidently not.
