Not really the done thing anymore, least of all at this level, but us paying 40k for Lawlor got me thinking.

How many times in recent years have we actually paid a decent fee for someone?

Sharp obviously. Can't think of anyone else of any substance though until you go back to Hayter, Heffernan and Stock.

Do you have a source for that 40K CBCB?

Others we have paid higher fees for recently:

Kyle Bennett 180K (after all add ons)
Harry Forrester 150K
Curtis Main - possibly 150K in the husband swap deal
Tommy Spurr 200K
Byron Webster 100K

By the way I think Matt Mills was 300K, which turned out to be great business

Edit: Anyone know what we paid for May, Wright and Etheridge (Latter went to Tribunal)

Likewise, Dutch, I'd be interested to know where your figures come from? Other than Forrester I'm surprised they are all as high. With Main, surely we didn't pay anything for him and he was thrown in as part of the deal - or do you mean that Boro knocked £150k off the price so that was his "effective fee"?

We got Main as part exchange for Husband when Middlesbrough signed him.

Hi Nick

You are correct in my interpretation of the Main/Husband deal

Forrester 150K Tribunal: South Yorkshire Times article 12/2/14
Mills: The PFA Footballer's Who's Who 2010-11 by B.J.Hugman

Bennett: As I recall widely reported in multiple sources at the time: Tribunal 40K immediately +40K in Jan12 + 25K for each of 15/30/45/60 apps+20% sell-on

I have only more recently been more careful in documenting exact sources, but I believe the Spurr and Webster fees were reported in the press at the time (Edit: does not mean the figures are true, just that I saw them somewhere). Sorry if this sounds like a cop out, but they are not figures I made up, I do try to document most things these days.

Did we not pay 110K for Justin Jackson and something similar for Gary Williams when we were in the conference?

I think Gary Williams was a theoretical 60K to be paid in instalments, but he was transferred back to Accrington (or Altrincham?) for 25K before the instalments were all paid. We may have been as little as 20K out of pocket, but that is guesswork.

I have seen both 120K and 100K for Jackson

I saw the thread title and immediately the Pink Floyd record came into my head.  I can't get it out now...

I remember a Tuesday night game at Leigh RMI very early on in his second season (I think it was the season we went up), maybe even the second or third game of the season, and he had a decent game capping it with a last minute goal. I remember thinking "Maybe he'll kick on from here and show us he was worth the money".

He didn't. He wasn't.

Need to get that sorted or you'll end up "comfortably numb"  :chair:

Justin Jackson will always be a worthwhile buy just for that last minute equaliser at Margate that made the long, long trip somewhat worth it.

I heard at the time that he was on 2k a week then as well.
John Hanson has just left Bradford City on 6k a week and is now on 10k a week at Wednesday.

The game at Wigan in the paint pot when they were top of the league and we were in the conference
He was excellent
Last real game for us
