New Song
« on February 03, 2017, 07:18:58 pm by Capmeister »
Ohhhhhh! Johnny Marquis' is magic
He wears a magic hat
And when you chuck the ball at him
He heads it in the sack

He heads it in the left
He heads it in the right
And when we win promotion
We'll sing this song all night

........to the tune of "My old man's a dustman" Nicked of course!

We've got a perfectly good song for JM.

"Who's the best striker in the Football League?
It's you, John, John John,
It's you John, John."

The popular one to that tune this season is at our "good friends" at Elland Road, concerning Pontus Jansson and his penchant for heading bricks...or summat.

My  12 year old son is a Newcastle United season ticket holder. ( he does consider Donny his first team and is always up for a trip to watch us) but he is always chanting the same thing but about Matt Richie. It is a good chant.

Song from the school yard, Kingfisher Primary, 1966:

My old man's a dustman, he wears a dustman's hat
He took me down to Wembley, to see a football match.
The ball was in the middle as the rusty whistle blew,
Fatty passed to Thinny, and down the wing he flew.
Fatty passed to Thinny, Thinny passed it back,
Fatty took a flying shot and knocked the goalie flat.
Where was the goalie when the ball was in the net?
Half way up the goalpost with his britches round his neck!
They laid him on a stretcher, they laid him on a bed
They rubbed his belly with ointment jelly and this is what he said:
OUCH, OOCH, EECH, another goalie dead!

I'm here all week!

Am I right in thinking we stole that from Barnet? Don't remember hearing it before then and I thought they were singing it on the day. Think it's a good song though, plus our John is miles better than Akinde!

I'm a bit older than you Pancho. We used to sing knackers round his neck.😉

Doesn't Andy Butler have the magic song? That seemed to be what was being sung at Yeovil?

The version I knew as a kid was
A bottle of beer a bottle of stout a woodbine and a match
A 4 pence ha'penny walking stick to see the football match
The ball was in the centre the referee did blow
Fatty got his mad up and down the pitch did go
Fatty passed to thinny , thinny passed it back
Fatty took a flying kick and knocked the goalie flat
Singing where was the goalie when the ball was in the net
Hanging round the goal post with his britches round his neck

But not to the tune of my old mans a dustman
