Tickets are available on the night at Colchester
« on April 18, 2024, 12:03:02 pm by normal rules »
Due to possible work commitments I won’t know if Ican get to Colchester. So I emailed their general enquiry team about tickets on the night and got this response .drfc state that there are no ticket sales on the night which is a bit naughty.

 “Hope you’re well.

Yes, tickets for Doncaster fans will be available to purchase on Tuesday night, via the Ticket Machines in the Club Shop.

Hope you can make it.

Cheers, David”

Any chance of game being shown via I Follow in BVB or a Temporary big screen in South Stand for those who can't go but would like an atmosphere

Would be better than 1 or 2 thousand all sat at home watching alone ?

I think there’s something on ifollow stating the matches can’t be broadcast to the public etc, not sure of the exact wording

Hi mate. It’s been policy for over a year I believe that no tickets are sold on the day in terms of our fans going away. We’ve still got some trouble causers,  I’m afraid.
I genuinely get your frustration, I really do & I know you well. It will be on Colchester’s head if they go down this route. Rovers try desperately hard to work with us all & it’s terrible that a few undesirables spoil it for the vast majority. Keep smiling & hope to see you at Colchester. RTID.

I totally get the policy mate. But rovers have supporters all over the country. And decisions to go to games can be last minute. Which doesn’t allow for any room to get tickets from DRFC. I’m at work on Tuesday and depending on when I finish cannot guarantee I can make it. And so the ability to get a ticket there is valuable. I’ll be doing my best to get there of course. I won’t be alone . This policy is preventing good people from getting to games . I’d be interested to know if rovers sell
Away tickets on match days at the KM?

Genuine question - how does this policy help with the trouble causers? What's the club's rationale for it?

It's a kind of unwritten rule at Rovers away games that hardly anyone sits in their allocated seat, so how does this help to identify trouble causers? And has it actually had any impact on the amount of trouble? This season we've still had flares set off and individuals acting up even with this policy in place.

I really hope this can be reconsidered for next season. It really hinders the majority who might not always be able to decide days/weeks in advance whether they can go to away games, and no doubt hinders our chances of maximising our away support for the team.

I'd want confirmation from someone at the club myself before setting off. Thats a hell of a long way to go to find out you can't get it in! Besides I suspect our allocation may sell out before Tuesday night if we beat Barrow on Saturday!

I believe the rationale is to prevent a large number of undesirables turning up un announced and paying on the night. Booking online requires you to be on the database. Which my whole family is . And obvs there will be people on the database who probably wouldn’t get a ticket if that makes sense . I recall Hull playing Lincoln some years ago at sincil bank . 150 of their risk group turned up without tickets wanting to pay on the day . The sensible thing to do would have been to let them
In the ground . They didn’t. They were escorted to the pub opposite the railway station which they duely smashed up. I think the policy rovers have currently causes more aggravation than it’s supposed to prevent. I’d be interested in any stats to support this.

Could you buy the cheapest available ticket to pick up from Colchester’s TO then when you get there upgrade/change to an adult ticket?

Given that I’ve been told away tickets are from a machine in their club shop I doubt it

Besides. If I called the rovers TO and have them my name , which you have to, then I’d struggle to pass as a child lol

Bloody hell I can remember that, around about 20 years ago it was. Didn't know it was because they'd been refused entry. Me and some mates got off the train early that evening, heading for a night out in Lincoln and they were still in there iirc.

Would also love to see the evidence that having to buy a ticket in advance prevents trouble. If you were that way inclined I doubt having to register on the site to buy a ticket would do anything to deter causing trouble at say train station, a town centre or outside the ground? Just looks like lip service and waffle for a headline.

Part of the policy means that host clubs get a good idea of how many away fans are coming so they can steward/ police accordingly . But let’s be frank, there is generally a reasonable idea how many supporters rovers would take away to certain games . Even with so much riding on it , there will only be a certain amount going to Colchester on a Tuesday night . And it’s not exactly an attractive fixture for the idiot rover supporters to go to .

Yep I agree with you, I reckon it causes a bigger problem than it solves, and probably does very little to stop aggro.

If it's about identifying individuals who cause trouble, why can't they.... I don't know.... see who causes trouble at the ground and identify them, rather than creating this ball ache system for the majority of Rovers fans who just want to show up and support their team. Frustrating.

Collectively punishing a whole fanbase because of a handful of individuals is wrong. Fans should be able to walk up to a ground and get a ticket on the gate without any issues. Imagine trying this at any other sporting / cultural event. It wouldn't fly. Education stops hooliganism, not collective punishment.
