I need a new laptop, this one is knackered, the hardware is good but not the body, the hinges have gone and shell is cracked.

The internals are not a problem but I need something that can stand a lot of use especially the hinges, this one gets a daily work-out and plenty of outings.

All brands appear to show hinge problems when googled.

Any ideas?

I have thought about a mac and I know they are loved but not sure I can make that change but may have too GL

I've had a few Apple products down the years. They are expensive but good.

The problems are, occasionally Apple will go and radically change their operating system and everything quickly becomes obsolete. And the other thing is Apple seem to be increasingly tying everything into their universe, it's slowly becoming more difficult to share formats. So basically you need more Apple products.

Overall a better experience but it's the expensive way to go.

If physical abuse is the issue you could always look at "rugged laptops" or "ruggedised laptops"...google is your friend on this one. You'll basically find standard laptop internals but with outer casing etc designed for people generally throw them around a lot (on site technicians, engineers, etc).

If you're breaking the hinges, why not eliminate them and get a tablet?

A bit rich from someone with an 8 bit OS, but thanks for all the replies my choice will be something with a long/extended warranty and possibly have a techy mate put this in a new shell.

that is what I use. Only gadget I have now. I admit it. Just haven't gone along with technology.

Have a look at Lenovo's Yoga range. They work in both Laptop and Tablet mode and the hinges on them are superb.
 
Lenovo were the makers of all IBM badged PC's so they know a thing or two about these things having been in the game for a very long time.
 
Wouldn't touch Apple unless you want to tie yourself into their products, at which point they're very good; expensive for what they are, but very good.

thanks Kato, I'm trialling a hp touch atm, it's quite a bit lighter than my previous machine, maybe I have to be a lot more careful how I use it.
