Preparations!!!!
« on August 05, 2020, 12:21:10 pm by wing commander »
Just out of interest does anyone know how we compare with our preparations for the new season compaired to other clubs in League 1..Peterborough seem well on the ball, they have been back in training a few weeks, have released there 1st,2nd and even third kits and have already played a couple of pre season friendly's.

Are they the exception to the rule or are we behind most other clubs in preparation???

My gut feeling is we’re well behind some and probably on a par with others. We have to assemble the squad first and that is some way off, yet.

My feeling is that we are in exactly the same place as everybody else. Indeed we may well be in front of others judging by some of the things I've seen and read in recent days.

The club have just taken all the players off furlough as has just about every other club, and all following the government guidelines for a resumption of training and preparing to actually play football. Those steps apply to all football clubs. I've listed them before but for those who haven't read them here they are;

Definitely the exception to the rule WC. Resumption of football, even pre-season friendlies, is a mighty complicated procedure at the moment and can't be rushed. And still the decision on salary caps and levels has not been confirmed, I fear a major gamble at Peterborough!

The Posh chairman couldn't release details of who they were playing/where they were playing ETC on Saturday but covered it on Twitter.

Think it was a tight affair so must have been a competitive team they were playing.

I think the last team we should compare ourselves to is Peterborough United, especially with their off field and media coverage

somebody suggested mighty "Peterborough Northern Star"   Barnet would make sense as part of the deal when they signed a Barnet player mid season ..... trouble is Barnet would make no dosh out of the agreed friendly if true

In fairness we don't know exactly who us training at Cantley, Are Blair and Sadlier down training? are they in training with any other club? Have we signed players we don't want to announce yet?
And if we are  likely to sign loan players from the premiership or Championship their own club will most likely want them to pre season with them until very near the start of the season.
We are rightly no longer an open book which cost us a couple of signings in the past, and what has happened to the man with the long range camera? did he join the Leeds spy ring?

It's around five weeks until the season's currently due to start. Playing friendlies now is like playing them in June under normal circumstances.

Pretty much irrelevant what other teams do, unless the FL start handing out points based on squad turnover.

I remember us playing loads of friendlies including Man City some years ago.
I thought that by the time the season started the players had done to much and seemed a bit flat. I also thought that the fans didn't seem as eager for the first league match either after so many games already. I'd rather have a structured well planned list than just playing for playing' sake.

The Posh chairman couldn't release details of who they were playing/where they were playing ETC on Saturday but covered it on Twitter.

Think it was a tight affair so must have been a competitive team they were playing.

It's OK if the other team are following the same guidelines issued by Gov.UK and have followed protocol and documented all that. But have they?

In all fairness, why wouldn’t they?
It would be in the interest of their own staff and players to follow the protocol.

In all fairness, cost!
Don't forget most clubs have just started back, there is a protocol to follow before teams can even attempt physical contact. That costs money, but it also takes time.

There is a lot of talk that clubs further down the pyramid are even refusing to start their seasons until supporters are allowed back in the stadium, so no training, no testing, no preparation at all.

Yep, although releasing players is the first step, but the anticipated changes are already starting to have an impact, and they haven't been formalised yet.

Yes I know about the cost implications.
Most of us do.
I was just responding to your post in which you said it was ok to play the game if sides were following government advice and protocols.
You said “ Have they”.
I asked why wouldn’t they when it was in the interest of all parties to do so.

Not really no. I was asking the question if the clubs they were playing were complying, and one of the reason is they might not be would be a cost that they don't wish to meet.
