Title: Saturday Afternoon's key fixtures (Feb. 25th. 2017)
Post by: les@donr on February 21, 2017, 10:17:46 pm
Below are the key fixtures for the top 10 teams in L2. What results for our nearest competitors would be best for us? Given 4 vs 2, and 3 vs 5 are playing each other, it should make for an interesting afternoon.

Colchester vs Hartlepool

Crewe vs Stevenage

Doncaster vs Accrington

Exeter vs Blackpool

Carlisle vs Portsmouth

Luton vs Plymouth

Mansfield vs Newport

Wycombe vs Crawley

Carlisle, Pompey, Luton and Plymouth all drawing would be good for us, especially if we can get back to winning ways.

Same answer every week = top three to pull away until we reach 79 point, then worry about the title.

I don't want the 4th/5th team to pick up any points at all.

Wycombe lost tonight at Colchester 1-0 and had a player sent off for two yellow cards

A win for us and then draws for the others or wins for Plymouth and Carlisle.

We want the chasing pack to be demoralised so we can inch closer to the required points total.

Agree with the above.  Let's win our own game's and pull further away. Ensure we get enough points to secure automatic promotion.. then worry about what 2nd and 3rd are doing.

A win for us and draws for the other four on Saturday means we pull away from them all!

I remain convinced promotion is in the bag, we only need another 14-15 points.
For that reason I'd be more than happy for Luton & Portsmouth to win.

The only problem with Luton and Pompey winning is that they will put pressure on Carlisle and Plymouth and they will put pressure on us. Draws will keep all four teams 2 points further behind us.

Complete waste of time worrying about everybody else's results.
We or should I say the Rovers players can only control our own results.
So our destiny is in our own hands. We are in pole position.
Let the others worry about us, not the other way round.

The bottom line is that we can afford to lose at least two points (depending on goal difference) more than our nearest rivals and still finish top.
Every round of games throw up shocks or surprise results.
We can only influence our games. Worrying about others solves nothing.
We worried for nothing about Plymouth in the last two games.

Its an interesting exercise in trying to figure out what would be the  best scores of our competitors for our benefit.

Worry about our results and have enough points for promotion. If we end up as champions that would be just a bonus imo

One step and one game at a time.
A few more twists and turns to come yet.

Remember folks, we are Doncaster Rovers, and we never do things the easy way. I fully expect to be driven to the depths of despair before we win this league and i really believe we will. COYR

I wonder if any fan of any club in the country ever says "We are XXXX, and we always do things the easy way". Never doing it the easy way must be something that 92 clubs in the country have in common!

Only Pompey and Colchester got wins, lost opportunity for us.
