There was a lad on the Barnsley forum a couple of weeks ago whose post will still be on their site applied for a job picking fruit in East Anglia as he was out of work. When he got the terms he was told he would have to stay in the accommodation provided and pay rent and also had to pay for food provided on site which would be deducted from his wage. He decided it would not be worth his while the rent and food taking the majority of the wage. The farmers, or that farmer are running a scam which is next to slave labour. There has always been a section of the work force that have sponged on the majority that work hard to earn a living, and their lifestyle has always been protected by the left in politics and come down hard by those on the right, and unfortunately many through no fault of their own have suffered when they should not have, while the habitual hard core spongers seem to get away with it. There is not a lot wrong with the system, it is some of the people in the system that are wrong.

The minority now see it is a passport to idleness. What we need is discipline for the shameless sponging minority and more help for the genuine grafters. Why should anybody get a free ride at the expense of the honest members of society.
It's common sense for me hound. I worked for just over 50 years until I was almost 66 to be where I am today. Some of the worst examples just don't want to work at all.c

So I’ve been living on dole money and using a bit of my savings to get by whilst my redundancy money is sorted ,for those in the know the company I used to work for is waiting for a CVA to be put in place . I’ll admit I haven’t been looking for a job because of the Covid 19 virus as I don’t want to go and bring it back into my house that my soon to be 84 year old mother also lives in . What would you do if you were in my place ?
you haven't answered my question
I suggest everyone in this thread reads The Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell. In the mid 30s, he saw destitution in this country and raged in that book against people with comfortable lives who moaned about dole scroungers.Within 5 years, we were at war. We needed workers to do double shifts at the foundries and the airfields and down the pits. Go and have a look what happened to the dole figures. Or if you can't be arsed, I'll tell you. They dropped to near-zero, overnight. Because jobs were available.Yes, there is a VERY small minority of people who sponge of the dole. Always has been and I despise them. But get it in perspective. They are a tiny, tiny minority. Most people on the dole are desperate for the security and dignity of a job.
