Martin Woods – Another one of Doncaster Rehabs
« on September 16, 2011, 07:05:44 am by Donnyjim »
Following SODs interview on Radio Sheffield this morning, surely its time that we off loaded Woods? He’s not played since last January. I’ve never really rated him anyway. He’s always seemed a bit too ‘top heavy’ (too much time at Nuffield Gym). On the pitch, when ever he was there, he always seemed a bit lazy to me. Its time to get him off the wage bill.

In our time of crisis we need to move away from being Doncaster “Rehab”. We need to start filling our squad full of fit players, and stop trying to rehabilitate crocked ones. We have a fight on our hands! Leave the mortally wounded behind! (Sharp aside of course).

I didn't hear the interview- what did he say?

I understand Woods was having an injection in his groin this week and seeing the specialist. I take it the results weren't positive?

Incidentally, it is very difficult to \"offload\" players when they're under contract and injured.

He's scored some quality goals for us, he gets everywhere on the pitch and most importantly he can actual tackle!

Strange that our poor form coincided with him being injured, a fit Martin Woods would boost us no end.
I've been reading posts bemoaning the Goalkeeping and defensive positions relating to our poor results but I stand by my comments in the past that the Midfield is where our real problems lie. They don't contribute enough in respect to goals or creating chances and don't take the pressure of the defence. This has all happened since Woods and Stock became injured.

Sounds like he's had yet another set back with his groin. SOD said that it could be career threatening. Its all about VFM for me and we're not getting out of Woods.

Worrying times for him then and a big loss if we can't get him back as he's a big player for us.  Let's hope we can get him back as he adds goals from midfield and we lack that big style.

Don't talk daft , he is probably the most gifted footballer at the club , we should be praying his career is not under threat , we are sadly lacking left sided players with his ability, he is i agree yet to peak so fingers crossed that we get the chance to see this happen at Rovers , a premier league player for sure.

He clearly offers a lot as a player but that's Woods' problem. He's rarely played in nearly 2 years now, He's constantly out with this groin injury. Obviously Woods has done more for this club that Steve Brooker did but IMO This has to be nearing the point where they're the same kind of story...How long do we keep paying him to be out injured?

It's obvious that our lack of form has really kicked in after his last major injury last season along with that of Stock. Now, with Stock looking to be back pretty soon and(i've not heard it yet but if it's true) Woods has had yet another set back the question has to be when do we get ruthless and, i know this will sound harsh on the lad but, stop getting stop-gaps in and get rid of him to replace him with a player who will be able to play week in week out and offer some stability to our midfield that we've missed since the Stock/Wellens partnership.

I'm not saying the likes of Gillett can't do a job in our midfield, intact Gillett is one of my favourite players, but Woods, since Wellens left, was the only midfielder who really chipped in with goals. If he's not back playing by January I would be trying to get him off the wage bill to bring a replacement in, we can't keep carrying players like this in our situation.

Nxt couple of weeks could b the start of a comeback 4 me...cannot wait 2 get the boots on again!

I think Billy will win that bet for which ones back first. Don't rush Woodsy in, give him the same as with Stock, just ease him in to it.

I would usually say that look, he's had it with us, his best days are over and coming back from this injury won't be easy. However...

We released Gordon Greer after he played a handful of games in 2 seasons for us and he is currently captaining the side that sits atop of the table. I also remember people on here saying he wouldn't cut it in this division, but I seem to recall the brighton Defense CB pair are Greer and Dunk, and lets face it Dunk hasn't been the shining star for them this season...

I know they won't win the league but just saying...

They're a classic central defensive pairing. One with a football brain, the other who kicks anyone who comes near him.

i must have missed some games if we are missing Woods goals. About as prolific as Oster. His absence has made no difference to our current predicament. Rather see a fit Stock back anyday

Think Woods is a super player really do him and Oster carried team second season in championship when Stock was injured.

Good news Martin tweeted that all gone well and getting the boots on soon!

He's a good player but don't agree with that.

Good player. He has a hell of a lot of ability, more than he shows at times but I certainly wouldn't say he was lazy. In fact one of the major attributes he brings to the team is energy and strength. It'll be good to see him back. He had a good goalscoring run the other year around the time he was captain and he'll be another good option to have available.
