Has PD played them as a 4-1-4-1 / 4-3-3 in pre-season at all?

It's all been 4-2-3-1 hasn't it?

Am I correct in my thinking that Harper has appeared in all/most the pre-season friendlies? Much as most people on the forum, including myself, don't think a great deal about his ability these days, other than to stand and point, is he part of PD's plans for the starting XI? Just a thought, horrible as it seems!

Thing is with Harper, and I've never actually ever slated him, but in this league he would just sit deep and do the most boring of jobs and the 5 players in front of him would have free reign too attack. I see Keegan being more capable at this role and Syers being a bit more of a roaming CM than a holder like these two, Harper is definitely 3rd choice in the position, but with his experience, I don't think it'd be the end of the world!

I got that, but why are we still paying harper with the ammount of midfielders that are above him in the pecking order.

Because he's under contract. We have no choice but to pay him

I think teams will be something like this.....

Rovers:

                   Turnbull

Quinn   Khumalo    Jones    Husband

            Furman   Wellens

Coppinger       Duffy        Cotterill

                    Brown

Blackpool:

                           Gilks

Broadfoot   MacKenzie  Cathcart   Robinson

   Ince       Angel     Fergusson    Grant

                   Chopra    Davies

During Wednesday night's owners meeting, didn't JR more or less announce the team for Saturday?

It will be 4, 2, 3, 1, with Brown up front (not Paynter), Duffy, Copps and Cotts playing behind Brown as attacking midfielders.  There would be two holding midfielders which could only be Furman and Keegan (although Wellens comes into the reckoning now) and the defence picks itself, although JR did say that PD was looking for an experienced left back as he felt James Husband may lack the experience to cope with Ince.

Hey... that is a good good starting XI I reckon. Despite all the bluster this week, we've actually been pretty canny with our signings.

I do expect more key players to be brought in once this investment saga wraps.

Personally, that XI is better than the one we started with when we last went up to the Championship.

Already getting giddy as a kipper.

Add another couple of loans and we'll be ok.  Then when injuries start to bite in late October, we'll have De Val back to health all being well to slot in and dictate the pace in midfield. I predicted 18th ages ago and I'm sticking to my guns.

Late October!  With such a small squad and us getting nothing from the referee's in this division we'll be getting nobbled from the off, I'd say that from our starting 11 a couple will be out with injuries in the first 4 or 5 games.  Call me pessimistic if you like but just wait and see   :ermm:

You are right, we'll get no protection from the refs in this division so we will get injuries - which makes the £200k fighting fund vital to our hopes of staying up, and means we can't afford to waste it on bringing in too many players too soon - I think the board have learned that from 2 yrs go!

Surely we will be saving on Spurr, that money could be what is paying for Wellens.

This I probably the way I'd go as well.

Rob's is a bit too attacking to start with but is something that could be changed to depending how the game goes.

Yep, that's my preferred line-up. We'll muller them, but can we convert the chances?

Turnbull
Quinn, khumalo, jones, husband
Furman, keegan
Cotterill, copps, Duffy,
Brown.

Wellens to come in second half and Roy of the rovers style, flip the game on its head.
I'm going to be as bold as to say 3-1 Donny. I'm hoping Inces heart isn't in it now, and he is only there because his dad is making him stay. The rest of the Blackpool side is pretty average and if Ince is quiet I'm optimistic that we put on a good show.
