Optimistic because we should be loads better than last season (low bar) but that might be doing DM’s disservice to teens in L2 which I know little about.

Just shows plenty of people thought the players weren’t that bad before the season. Now they are all no better than mid table and DS can’t be judge until he’s signed 20 players

After a season and a half of absolute dross that would be progress and we'd be well set to challenge for promotion next year.

I like the transfer policy this summer but am not convinced either that there's been enough of a change around in players, or with the ability of the manager, to warrant an automatic promotion challenge.

Hope to be proved wrong.

Well I don't feel as daft as some of the rest of you should do! Nearly 9 months on and: -

- that's 2 and a half seasons of dross now then.

- I think I'll wait to comment on next summer's transfers till after I've seen them play!

- I'm even less convinced with the ability of our manager.

- I definitely do not think we're well set for a promotion challenge next season any longer.

I'm still hoping to be proved wrong though!

As context, if we don’t get promoted, this will statistically be our worst season in the league since 1997/98.

Our stint in the fourth tier immediate before 1997/98 saw us finish 19th, 13th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 21st, 11th, 20th and 23rd respectively (more recent seasons first).
