Title medals
« on April 14, 2017, 05:56:23 pm by Drover »
Whats the current ruling on these,as regards required games played to qualify Etc?I think its altered a few times over the years.

P.s. good solid result today, away against a team with decent home form, and still needing points to get in the play-offs. Well done Rovers. :clapping:

I seem to remember reading that the club are given the medals and then its upto the club who they give them too.
Im not 100 percent though,in my opinion anybody who has played 1 minute on the pitch should get one.

Didn't it used to be players that had made about 13 or 15 appearances.
I suppose if you were reserve keeper you might have been on the bench 40 odd times and get a medal.

I ALWAYS thought you had to play at least 10 games to receive one

Thats one of them that I remember Rich1471,but seem to think there was many hard luck stories/near misses happening that they altered it.How or if,I've no idea.Something makes me think there was some sort of a case where,it was down to the club involved if they paid for it/them.That many myth's abound it,that's why I've asked.

The rules often change on this kind of thing.
In cup finals almost everyone in the squad gets a medal including the tea lady.

I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, it's also traditional for the team to win the league before they can give out any medals.

The OP's question appears to be what criteria is required for a player to qualify for a winner's medal.

Also traditional? What other criteria is it also too pleas Syme?

Quite clearly you was tongue in cheek reminding people that we haven't yet won the league.
The OP asked a general question.

I think there are two main ones Wilts, plus a third extra one.

Firstly, you need to win the league. It's frowned upon if a team hands out title medals when they've finished below first. So it's absolutely key that you play for a team that has finished first.

Secondly, you need to be lucky enough to fall within the top 18 contributors to the winning of that title. This is because Football League title winning clubs only get given 18 medals (or this was the case last season at least).

Thirdly, if point two doesn't cover you, your club can apply to the Football League for more medals, but they have to submit a written application outlining why the player(s) outside the first 18 also deserve a medal.

I think that about covers it Wilts.

I thought the club could purchase extra medals, wasn't aware there was an application process.

Here you go, the definitive answer to this teaser:

37    Championship Trophies and Medals

37.1    The Club declared the Champion Club of each Division shall hold the Championship Trophy of that Division until the next Season’s League Competition is concluded. When the winners of the trophies shall have been ascertained they shall be handed over to such winners who shall return the same to The League on or before 1st May in the following year in like good order and condition, provided always that the winning Club shall, from time to time throughout the year, on request from The League, release the trophy to The League for such purposes as The League shall require.

37.2    The League shall present to the Championship Club of each Division 23 souvenirs comprising 18 for the Players, one for the chief administrator/club secretary, one for the Manager, one for the Physiotherapist and two for staff other than Players. It shall be the responsibility of the Club to determine to which of its Players the souvenirs should be presented. Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of The League.

We've got our answer to this now, but i was going to say why not ask Fergie. He got a Premier League winners medal and only played 15 games at the start of the '92/'93 season, and never started another game after November ! Couldn't possibly be anything to do with his dad being the manager could it ? Hmmmmm....
