Big one today then!
ITEN FA Cup Preview: https://www.intotheemptynet.com/post/opportunity-knocks-west-ham-doncaster-rovers-fa-cup (https://www.intotheemptynet.com/post/opportunity-knocks-west-ham-doncaster-rovers-fa-cup)
Don't read anything into me leaving Richards out of the Likely Line-up by the way, a complete oversight on my part!
Hope we're all looking forward to this game. Can we pull a surprise out of the hat though?
-
Today’s team
COYR
-
Not confident with that line up, though we haven’ got many options
-
West Ham’s team today
COYR
-
Shame for Richards but a decent option from the bench at least. I’m guessing having Halliday and James in midfield is intended to make us a bit harder to break down.
7 changes to the West Ham team from their last PL game. There’s an awful lot of flair in their front 4 which means we’ll either be chasing shadows if they click or they’ll not be arsed.
-
We would have been going into the stadium around this time.
-

It still isn’t such a bad West Ham line up though Nick is it.
-
Looks a strange team selection but I have said that before and DM has proved me wrong.Fingers crossed.
-
Had to smile just seen the strap lone on Sky "John-Jules could make a return"
-

Not at all, but I’d definitely rather be facing them without their first choice full backs, Antonio, Rice & Bowen.
-
For this match with injuries don’t understand why Richards is not starting but DM as gone with the back four and two in front that beat Blackburn. With JJ injured then Okenabirhie up front, Taylor and choice between Smith and Richards also choice between Lokilo and Simoes.

Me too.
-
How does it compare to the team that played Stockport?
-
So 4 centre halves across the defence and 2 full backs in midfield. .
Worked ok at Blackburn.
-
Also surprised but not surprised in a way re Richards. I think it's damage limitation with half a chance of catching them on the break.
Anything can happen. It's a game of football, they could get someone sent off etc.
-
Don’t like the idea of joe at right back especially with fast tricky wingers running at him would of had Richards in for him and have Brad at right back but we will see if darron as got it right
-
Richards was subbed the last few games I believe, and now on the bench. I hope our most creative player currently hasn't had a bit of a tiff with DM?
-
Sounds like Pete Tong doing the intro lol
-
Let’s see how biased this commentary is...... hopefully not!
-
Come ON you bastaaaaaaarrrdddssss!
-
I’m getting nervous now.
-
Shitttttt
-
Well that’s disappointing.
-
Cam John on loan from Wolves wtf who briefs these common taters
-
One down after 90 seconds. ☹️
-
Very good goal but sometimes you can score too early
-
We play our best football when we are behind
COYR
-
FFS. that was so easy for West Ham . Can't say I'm not very disappointed.
-
Nerves from Cam? Three heavy touches already.
-
Quality was always gonna tell thankfully we have plenty of time to get back in
-
John needs to keep his position and shape...he’s looking too easy to beat at the moment...
-
Poor defending. Nobody ran with the player who crossed the ball.
-
Just need to concentratenothing to panic about yet
-
C'mon people Moyes is a manager who is taking this competition seriously he could have put a oad of youngsters in today we are up against a strong team
-
Being carved open at the moment. Not in the game at all.
-
Looks like we need to show a bit more belief, showing them far too much respect
-
It's what you should expect from a top team, they're a couple of yards quicker than us in thought and movement at the moment
-
The difference in quality is showing as they are quicker in everything they do and are pulling us from pillar to post.
That said, we’re still in it and we’ll get a chance or two come our way
-
Poor old Cameron looks like the nerves are getting the better of him. Looks so uncomfortable with the ball
-
Cameron John looks a nervous wreck
-
Who are the commentators on iplayer
-
Sometimes it’s better in games like these to field your strongest back 4 and fill the midfield with physical presence...Halliday, James, Anderson and maybe Butler would have better balance, we can’t outplay the hammers but we could’ve perhaps held them for a while ...
Bit late now because what should have in my opinion been a defensive counter attacking strategy, is now a forced offensive ...
-
Lads just need to calm down reshape and switch on
-
You can tell it’s a home commentary crew.
-
has Taylor got a syrup on...... didn't recognise him
-
Only James and Halliday are performing here. The back 4 are having a nightmare.
-
Just crossing my fingers this doesn’t turn into 5/6/7-0.
They look very good.
-
Must be 10 minutes since we last put 5 passes together, we’re going to be knackered midway through the second half if this carries on.
-
Just crossing my fingers this doesn’t turn into 5/6/7-0.
They look very good.
It does have the feel of the Bolton FA Cup game a few years ago. Playing a good team in a purple patch.
-
Game over.
-
2-0
-
This will be 5 or 6 we’re chasing shadows
-
Just crossing my fingers this doesn’t turn into 5/6/7-0.
They look very good.
Absolutely, we don’t want to get hammered do we.
-
The back 4 is really struggling. Playing 4 centre halves across the back line works fine when you’re playing a route one team like Northampton but when you’ve got players of the quality of Benrahma and Lanzini buzzing around it’s too slow and gives them far too much space.
-
Oh well, back to the league then, just goes to show the gap between Premier League and the rest of us!
-
I got it down as an acceptable 4-0 but probable 6-0.....
For me it’s just a game to avoid injuries, nothing more !
-
We must score next to get anything from this long hopeless balls up to ferji are pointless we need to get back what we know.
Unlucky that good free kick routine
-
Keep the faith- we have had one or two good moments in attack
-
I hope this doesn't shatter the lads' confidence and affect our league form.
-
Please just don't turn into an arseholing.
-
The only way Premier league sides get beat by TLOD is if they are complacent, rest too many and have an off day.
None of which apply today unfortunately
-
There is no pressure on us at all.
It won’t be shameful to lose this game.
-
Got to change a few things here. The midfield are playing in no mans land, and are no where near when they have the ball - interestingly though, better when we have the ball. That might just be the tactics Darren asked them to do though?
The defence cannot play the slow sluggish game they usually do, passing it between themselves, if they do it, it needs to be with purpose, fizzing the ball at each other.
Nothing really unexpected though - West Ham are at their peak at the moment
-
Why again do we get a free kick and pass backwards towards our keeper? We are 2 nil down!!
-
There is no pressure on us at all.
It won’t be shameful to lose this game.
Maybe not shameful but I’ll certainly see it as a shame if we fail to make more of a game of it in the second half. Going out with a whimper as it stands.
-
What a huge stadium it is. It might have been filled today too in different circumstances.
-
We could do with Taylor Richards.
-
There is no pressure on us at all.

Maybe not shameful but I’ll certainly see it as a shame if we fail to make more of a game of it in the second half. Going out with a whimper as it stands.
We have to be realistic though Nick.
We are comfortably outclassed here and doing our best just to keep the score down at the moment.
-
I'd be happy to shake hands now and walk off without any injuries or bookings..
-
Hung Halliday out to dry that half...
-
Why again do we get a free kick and pass backwards towards our keeper? We are 2 nil down!!
Keeping the score down. That's all we can do now to avoid a humiliation.
-
The BBC commentators are so condescending.
Apparently we may struggle with the pace later on in the game! We're league one, not part-time non-league!
-
I don’t care what level the opposition are at, there is no excuse for the piss poor passing we have done. And also don’t play a free kick back to the keeper FFS!
-
S**t ground, no fans
-
Moyes has shown us the respect we deserve and played a strong team with experience throughout, so was always going to be difficult. If we can nick a goal early in the 2nd half, who knows what might happen, but right now I'd be happy to finish with score as it is, and dare I say it...concentrate on the League?
-
This game just highlights are frailties in the middle we need midfielders in there not wing backs
-
The BBC commentators are so condescending.
Apparently we may struggle with the pace later on in the game! We're league one, not part-time non-league!
I had exactly the same thought. We are full time professional DRFC, not a bunch of teachers, bakers and mechanics who train twice a week using car headlights to floodlight the training pitch.
-
The BBC commentators are so condescending.

Typical BBC commentator who watches Premier League week in week out. We are TLOD to them, nothing more. t**ts.
-
I don’t care what level the opposition are at, there is no excuse for the piss poor passing we have done. And also don’t play a free kick back to the keeper FFS!
But we do that every week. Halliday's first reaction is to turn and pass the ball back.
-
John off Richards on.
John is our weak link, we are getting absolutely ripped to bits down the right flank, big 45 ahead.. wouldn’t be bothered if we lose but let’s show a bit of composure Christ, can see the nerves in every player.
-
When we are playing 4 centre backs and three full backs in a team it isn't much wonder we are struggling to create, no matter how flexible they are. West Ham are far too good for us, take Smith off and put Taylor Richards on is the only positive move we can make.
-

Exactly bjw.
If anyone thought we would be able to play like we do against other L1 teams I am surprised.

Just think it’s disappointing that there’s not a bit more fight - Chorley-Wolves was a much more competitive game last night despite a much bigger gap, and Blackpool have just equalised at Brighton. Things like that suggest it’s not beyond the realms of possibility to make more of a game of it.
-
League One scores aren't too bad at the moment. A draw for Portsmouth v Hull would be nice.
-
Can't play teams with this quality and have so little depth as we have today. 2 full backs in midfield and centre halves at full back works against average league 1 sides, it isn't working against players who coat 20+ million each.
It does show that we need 3-4 players in and to get others fit. Different game if you have the players we had a few weeks ago (Sims, whiteman, gomes, John Jules all massive misses).
-
We've had a few bad first halves this season & Darren's got a reaction from us, fingers crossed we can get going a bit more.
-

Of course it is disappointing but WH are not holding back are they and we knew they would be too good for us if they didn’t think it was a case of just having to turn up.
Maybe if we score the next goal in the game they might get a bit twitchy.
-
B r take smith off ?? He is the only midfielder on the pitch haha , get joe or John off and put Brad or James back in and get Richards on more like
-
The BBC commentators are so condescending.
Apparently we may struggle with the pace later on in the game! We're league one, not part-time non-league!
That made me angry too , we have to play far more games in a season than TLOWHU.
We gave them far too much respect and they will be told that at half time.
The BBC need to drop the condescension, it's bad enough not having a crowd but when you have commentators .....you just want to switch off. !!
-
Someone mentioned earlier about hoping that it won’t impact our league form. Last time we went out of the FA Cup to Premier League opposition it took us 8 games to win in the league again...
-
The difference in quality is there for all to see. It may be unpalatable, but it’s patently obvious. We got away with it at Blackburn, but not here. Can’t see a goal in it for us at all.
-
A bit left field I know. But what about full backs playing as full backs, spare centre half's sat back on the bench, and bring in two midfielders from the bench to play in midfield?
-
We're too predictable and regimented in everything we do. Our keeper has more time on the ball than anybody.
-
The BBC commentators are so condescending.

I don’t disagree really. The game is played at a quicker pace than we’re used to and we’ve barely had the ball so I imagine we will tire quicker than the West Ham players.
-
I wouldn't take the one real midfielder we have on the pitch off, but I would introduce Taylor Richards.
I think the comments regarding fitness is a fair comment, we can't keep with their pace now, and have been chasing shadows, that takes some doing for 90 mins.
Hopefully we can put a bit more of a fight up, and have a bit of a go at them in the second half.
-
B r take smith off ?? He is the only midfielder on the pitch haha , get joe or John off and put Brad or James back in and get Richards on more like
Smith's been terrible today.
-
Missed first half, got a phone call at 10 to 3 from gp, they had a few covid vaccines left which they couldnt keep.
Asked if we both wanted to go and have one.Just got back in time for 2nd half.
-
Hung Halliday out to dry that half...
We’ve a very cumbersome back line. They all have some ability but very little agility. You can get by with that in Lg1 but the Energetic, tricky wingers and forwards like the Hammers have just run rings around our less nimble defenders.
-
What team did Wolves have yesterday and what team have Brighton got out today? I would suggest both would struggle with the team that Moyes has put out today. We are seeing the proper gulf between a good Prem team and a decent 1st Div team.
We will struggle to create any decent chances today with the team we have out today with just Fej up front on his own, we are being totally outclassed in the middle of the park and apart from a superb cross from Taylor we have done little else.
For me take Wright off Halliday back to full back and TR on
-
The only time the picture doesn't freeze and the bloody players do instead.
-
B r take smith off ?? He is the only midfielder on the pitch haha , get joe or John off and put Brad or James back in and get Richards on more like
Smith's been terrible today.
Agreed
-
We can't even give a throw in to our own player.

I thought I'd seen stats in the past that showed that whilst the Premier League has a better quality of play, they workrate is actually lower than in the lower leagues.
-
Been impressed with balcombe today.
-
Balcombe's done well
-

Both Brighton & Wolves have made fewer changes from their last league game than West Ham have.
3 nil now, and they could have scored several times already this half :(
-
What the f**k was Halliday doing at that corner?
-
Damage limitation now
-
and I was just beginning to think maybe we can keep it down to 2-0
-
I can deal with getting beat by a better football team but the commentary team are winding me up
-
Glad it’s not on national tv now , it’s becoming borderline comical
-
It’s so one-sided, it’s untrue.
Wake up call for everyone at the Club.
-
B r take smith off ?? He is the only midfielder on the pitch haha , get joe or John off and put Brad or James back in and get Richards on more like
Smith's been terrible today.
I don’t want to be too critical as we are being outclassed by a good side but I don’t get how Smith is an international player
-
What the f**k was Halliday doing at that corner?
You really don’t like Brad do you.
-
What’s with all the digs at smith ? He as just come back from COVID and been chucked straight in to a depleted midfield and expected to run the show now Ben as gone he is doing fine in the league games for me
-
What the f**k was Halliday doing at that corner?
You really don’t like Brad do you.
I don't rate him at all.
-
Joe Wright is suddenly on fire
-
f@ck me , I thought we might score there.
-
Smith nearly made me eat my words
-
Have we actually started playing football no we are 3-0 down?
-
What the f**k was Halliday doing at that corner?
You really don’t like Brad do you.
I don't rate him at all.
Who would have thought that.
-
is that not a penalty? there players clearly jumped in to him, with no attempt for the ball
-
So according to Ekoku, Moore is putting his subs on to ‘give them a run out on this big stage’
Patronising *******
-
Lokilo concussed?
-
I know we're all feeling the sting of being well beaten but I really think the criticism of the commentary is unfair.
For one, it isn't biased. It's a neutral BBC team, Efan Ekoku used to play for Sheff Weds and Norwich, not West Ham, and as for the comments about us getting tired...it's true. The biggest difference between the teams has been the speed of movement and thought, they are fitter than us and all PL teams will be. Wright was blowing after 20 minutes because keeping up with Benrahma and Lanzini is much harder than dealing with third tier wingers.
-
Butler just took one right in the Jacob's.....
-

I don’t think anyone has accused them of bias. It’s the patronising attitude that grates.
-
Iv had to mute the commentary and Iv got our lasses Bridgerton playing in the background
-

I don't know if someone's had a word with them at half term, but certainly in the first half, many of the things they were saying was wrong, unfair and unnecessary
-
JT had to give it back to Simoes there
-
Consolation would be nice for confidence
-
And there we have the perfect example of everything that is wrong with the ridiculous off side interpretation by assistant referees. Fej was yards off side but he doesn't put his flag up.
-
Ffs

Someone did on a previous page. Anyway, I think it's been standard fair to be honest.
We've been better in the second half at any rate.
-
Just as we started to put a few good pieces of play together, bang down the other end and 4-0
-
Big shame that they scored there, just as we were starting to play a bit.
T-R making a difference.
-
Taylor Richards is better as a #8 than a #10. Making us tick since coming on. Just needs that consistency.
-
Speed, movement, quality.
Outdone in all three departments, in all areas of the field today.
No shame though. I can’t imagine what some of them whu players are on.
-
Nice to see us actually play a bit this half, push into their half and threaten their goal. I’d far rather see us lose 4 nil trying to make game of it than lose 2 nil and lie down quietly.
-

The difference is Richards, showing a bit of intent to go forward
-
I do feel pretty insulted by them bringing on a kid goalie for 10 minutes as if it's a friendly.
-
You can now see the importance of Taylor Richards to this team - hell of a player who is at the wrong level with us.
May have been a bit more interesting with him on from the beginning, we would not have won though, WH are just too good.
-
When Richards came off in the last game he was not happy and ignored Moore as he walked down tunnel, wonder if Moore left him on bench today as a result of this as it’s clear he should of started if it’s off quality alone ?
-
No problem with that RA.
It gives the lad a first team debut.
That is all.
-
I don't think we were ever going to be able to compete, I'm just relieved that we haven't picked up any serious injuries, or red cards.
-
I do feel pretty insulted by them bringing on a kid goalie for 10 minutes as if it's a friendly.
Did think the same
-
The keeper they've brought on has been on loan at League One so it's not a complete piss take.
-
I do feel pretty insulted by them bringing on a kid goalie for 10 minutes as if it's a friendly.
Taking the piss in my opinion
-
I’d be more pissed off if they put him up front
-
How many times do we say blood the youngsters when we are comfortable?
-
Okenabirhie onside then.
-
West Ham will get battered in rd 5 in what will be their cup final.
-
Now that's over, let's get some depth in for Tuesday.
-
I think man of the match for me is Joe Wright, as against Blackburn he is the standout player, and looks like he could play a level above league one. Everyone else apart from Taylor Richards looked too scared to play. Brad Halliday is the best from the rest.
-
We been beaten by better side but without the midfield three together of Whiteman Richards and Smith we have work horses with no quality. Richards and Smith together plus another quality player will make us look better in the league.
Smith showed without the other two next to him he couldn’t do the clever passes
Let’s hope we can get them signed and ready so we now can concentrate on the league
-
Only James, Halliday, Richards, and Simoes came out with any credit today.
-
Whiteman isn’t in the equation, he doesn’t play for Donny.
-
well , just hope the lads have learnt a bit and take us onwards and upwards back in the league.
-
Whiteman isn’t in the equation, he doesn’t play for Donny.
I know that but the point is we need another of similar quality if we can
-
I think some posts today were far too critical of the team.
A bit of perspective is needed.
-
We all knew that we had no chance if WHU were on it and I thought they were very good. I don’t think we should lay into our players too much- even at our own level we don’t look the best technically so it’s not really fair to judge them against good PL opposition- if anything it only demonstrates again what a fantastic job DM is doing with limited resources but a great team spirit
-
Perspective they have a wage bill.of over 130 million, play a strong side and we will struggle. We played a few good moves second half, 4 was a bit harsh.
But we still had too many weaknesses and it's clear what's needed this week if we want to get promoted and we have a brilliant opportunity to do so. It's in our hands.
-
Bodies needed asap, fully expected to get beat today, I expected more from us though, leaving Richards out for me was criminal, easily our best creative player at the moment
-
I don't think criticism is really towards the players as such, more the fact that a portion of the team were strangely played out of position for what ever reason.. Who knows what would have happened if halliday and Richards played from the start in their rightful position?
-
They had about 30 quality players to pick from. We had a patched up team with square pegs in round holes. Light in midfield and nowt up front.
We need some decent players in quick.
-
Shit day in the league also, dropped to 5th.
-
Let’s at least give team some credit.they were playing against some top class players.we are unfortunately a bit depleted in strength due to many circumstances.the team picked itself.two or three new players in next week and we will be up and running.must be some tired legs after today. :scarf:
-
Shit day in the league also, dropped to 5th.
I wouldn't say it was that bad - Crewe and Charlton drew at home and Portsmouth got humped...
Just looked and Peterborough won without having a shot on goal...
-
I’m more gutted we weren’t there at the game and then able to have a few beers in the big smoke after the game anyway onwards and upwards RTID
-
Shit day in the league also, dropped to 5th.
charlton and pompey dropped points. Could have been worse...?
-
Yeah and Pompey got beat 4-0 by a team from L1 not by a PL team.
