Football Rivalries

Hi all I'm currently in the process of collecting data for a book about footballing rivalries. It would be greatly appreciated if you were able to complete the survey (which is only 2 questions long!)

  many thanks in advance

Fairly straightforward.  Be interesting to know the results.

Going back a couple of decades and looking more at who has been in the same division, I would more likely have said Scunthorpe, Rotherham, and possibly even Lincoln or York as the 3rd choice..

Very easy to fill in , it would have been interesting to have an age bracket to see if there was a big difference across the age groups , for Rotherham, scunny and Barnsley

When I first started going Barnsley and Rotherham were in the divisions above us, chesterfield we're always around and about us so they're my personal rivalry.

Don't really see us as being rivals with Barnsley. The two towns and supporter bases are very similar and I have a lot of Barnsley supporting friends, which probably clouds my judgement

I did Rotherham Barnsley and Wednesday I but all 3 are as bad, followed by Scunthorpe and Grimsby but it depends on who we are playing at the time

How about we turn the question the other way round as in what local rivals will have rovers as a number 1 rival or even in the top three.

Leeds > man utd ,Huddersfield ,Bradford

Sheffield utd > Sheffield weds ,Sheffield weds and Sheffield weds

Sheffield weds > Sheffield utd,Sheffield utd sand Sheffield utd.

Rotherham > Sheffield weds ,Barnsley, ?

Barnsley > Sheffield utd,Sheffield weds ?

Bradford > Huddersfield,Leeds ?

Huddersfield > Bradford ,Leeds ?

Grimsby > Lincoln ,hull,scunny

Scunny > grimsby ,donny, Lincoln

Hull > Leeds ,Sheffield utd ,grimsby

Lincoln > grimsby , ? ,?

York > ? ? ?

Rotherham and Scunny for as long as I can remember.
Leeds more recently.

Rotherham waaaaaay ahead of the pack.

Well I put Barnsley, Rotherham and Scunthorpe.

Exactly the same tempting to put FC Scum of Leeds there too or even Grimsby/Lincoln*

Rotherham obviously, but then as many have said scunny, I would put york in there, Mansfield as always enjoyed goading them since the 80's, the big boys of l##ds, Wednesday, blades, forest are only temporary rivals due to their temporary shitness?!
Funny one but I also consider Yeovil a rival??

I work with a couple of Scunny fans, and neither of them see us a rival, they reckon we aren't one and its just Grimsby and Lincoln.

This is one issue where there really is no right and wrong answer.  Opinions on which clubs constitute our rivals will depend on what era you started watching Rovers, and whether its about local rivalries or on-pitch ones.

I picked Lincoln as one of my 3, as although they are not the closest, I believe we have played them a lot (until relatively recently) over the years, plus that was my first ever fixture!

Not wanting to step on some of your toes with this comment ,but on the ddr front there is only one really rival and that is Rotherham .

That was the game when all and sundry would make the effort to get out of bed for on a Saturday .

There has been many a many  days out up against the Rotherham lot over the years .

Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Lincoln in that order.

My great grandad always had a grudge against Gainsborough, Mexborough and Denaby.
