Why Was HE sent off did not see a thing
-
Apparently having a kick at mason
-
What happened, I was guilty of ball watching at the time
-
He kicked out at mason
Was 4th official that told the ref
-
Guy just kicked out after the ball had gone, unfortunate area of the pitch given it was right in front of our dugout and the 4th official. Silly boy.
-
Took a swing ay him, clear as you like. No contact but rash
-
Thought ref was going over to send Fergie to stands
-
Thought ref was going over to send Fergie to stands
So did I - Thought he had said "summat" to Ref about ball being out but not been given out
Nice to see Ref actually NOT consult everyone in the Ground to try and change his mind. He was still s**t most of the game though and he cant count to 10 that's for sure
-
The ref gave them that free kick on edge of area, the offence which wasn't a foul by the way was about 6 foot inside area

The Southend fella wasnt sent off?
-
Ferdinand was after the whistle for comments to the ref.
-
Ah thats correct. I forgot about that. My bad.
-
No probs, I think the ones after the whistle, in the tunnel etc don't register the same as someone walking off to a chorus of boos during a game.

Kenny Jackett talks about the sending off in his post-match interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIv5H9m4YcQ
Always liked Jackett; a no-nonsense manager but also honest and modest.

Also always liked Jackett. There is a very good book out about the season he got Millwall promoted to the Championship in 2009-10 - the journalist/author was allowed access to all team matters all season. Players mentioned include JJ Price and John Marquis.
-
Portsmouth's website reporting that the red card has been overturned because of 'mistaken identity'. That's a strange one if true as even Kenny Jackett admitted the lad gave the ref the option of sending him off. There is even video evidence showing the kick - was Mick Russell on the appeals board?
-
Doesn't say anything about mistaken identity here. Pretty clear they got the right man anyway.

WTF does "wrongful dismissal" mean!! Are they saying the wrong man got sent off or do they mean it was wrong to send him off?
It was violent conduct whether or not he connected so a definite red, as was the Southend incident. Why cant they be consistent?
-
Truly baffling decision. Cannot for the life of me work out what that decision is all about. Trying to play devil's advocate with myself to find some reason for overturning it but I can't think of one!

All "wrongful dismissal" means is that they don't think he should have been sent off, which is literally incredible.
I have sympathy with the ref and the Fourth Official. If I was in their shoes I'd be bloody fuming.
-
Perhaps they decided that he actually missed Mason with his petulant kick at him.
It is still violent conduct though whether or not he connected.
-
It was a bit of a half-arsed swing, but a swing nevertheless. He knew immediately he was in the doodoo as he tried desperately to apologise to everyone within 20 yards as the ref strolled over.
-
The precedent set here is you're allowed to swing for someone as long as you're crap at it and miss.
Hopefully the committee members responsible got a stern telling off behind closed doors and this doesn't start to spread.

There's a certain procedure to how the appeals are heard, and most of it done remotely and alone. The point I'm making is I doubt they would get any feedback.

I believe the correct term for what he did is an Audley ............ i.e. a swing and a miss.. :boxing:

It is bizarre, surely by the rules it was a red card? Ah well, it was right on the day and it doesn't make much difference to us now.
-
It is bizarre.
A bloke kicks out intending to kick an opponent and is rightly sent off under "the Rules". Then there is an appeal which cancels the Red Card
In our previous home game a Player DID make full contact kick or two on an opponent in full view of The "Ref" who immediately blew for "an offence". He then spent an eternity debating the offence with lots of people before finally handing a Yellow Card.
It was and still is one of the clearest Red Cards anyone could see - yet that Player does not seem to have had any justifiable sanction(s) either at the time nor since
It is bizarre

Wolfie, as redw(h)ine posted yesterday, maybe we should appeal against the red card that the Southend player didn't get.
Some people on committees really are a joke.
-
If the ref gives a yellow card he is deemed to have seen the incident so no further action can be taken. That is as I remember it.
I'm sure that this arguement has come up before on numerous occasions.
-
Agree but there seems to have been a Panel that have looked at issues again in retrospect and acted. Would be nice if they had with this case
Also hope the Refs Assessor took appropriate action given what he "saw" of the incident and the Refs "action(s)" immediately after the kick(s)

I don't disagree with that idler.
I am sure that you understand that what redw(h)ine (and i) wrote was a joke.
I want to emphasise that in case anyone gets the wrong end of the stick.
-
Yes I agree hound in my eyes a ref giving a yellow for an offence that ought to have been a red should be accountable. To say that he saw it so it was right is unacceptable.
-
Totally agree
The Refs get away with murder and just because the Ref in the Southend game dished a Yellow Card to the "Jordan Houghton" clogger imo means he got it wrong.
It should have been a RED all day long and the Number 4 AND the Ref were culpable and should both should be punished retrospectively ! In the Refs case he should be stood down until he is 75 - not that I bear a grudge you understand !

Wish they had that thought process when Billy Whitehurst was playing away at Hartlepool
