Just to echo how pleasing it is to see a prompt statement. Something in the past that we've suffered without, allowing speculation to fester.

The silly season is well under way.

Been thinking, now if they were to throw Priskin into a deal plus the cash - then I'd be interested.

If you were Coppinger and had his ability would you not find it personally insulting that they have only bid that much for you and think your only as good a 300k?

I was thinking that

I'm over on TWTD at the moment, somewhat fighting a losing battle. None of them will hear anything I have to say and keep telling me that they will sign the pair for £3m, because they will put in transfer requests and their agents will sort out the rest.

Why dont we, the VSC forum community, all chip in and offer the club £400k for Copps.  I'm sure we could then have the resolve to resist ANY offer.

John, you know it makes sense.  Sign all the players over to the VSC and we'll flash the rods at these clubs who think they can ride roughshod over our players valuations.

I personally think that they will put any emotions aside and will do what is best for themselves and their families. Offers will come in and they will be considered. Copps will take a pay day and Billy will further enhance his career. Sod, JR and the board will not stand in their way but will get what they can for them. Ala Wellens and Mills. If better offers don't come in, of course they will stay. Simples!

Realistically summed up. First offers are never accepted but larger bids usually follow. Think its inevitable that if players want to go, they will.

I hope Copps has told his wife that the bid has been rejected because according to some of the posters on the Ipswich forum she's already got a job at Ipswich hospital

Well, if that were true about her job transfer then there is clear evidence of a contracted player being tapped up, also some one at the HR department at Ipswich nhs trust as clearly contravened the data protection act. some people could potentially be in legal trouble

This story DOES have some foundation, my missus is in the know with certain NHS staff and something IS happening with Mrs Coppinger.

Now, The Coppingers are in Florida on their hols at the moment, but I know for a fact that his missus is trying to get a transfer (not sure at what stage just yet) and the rumours have been doing the rounds on the wards for a few weeks. So Copps has either been tapped up or him and his agent are in cahoots with Ipswich for one last big pay day.

Sounds increasingly like he could have been tapped up.

Should have been tapping him up 3 or 4 years ago so they'd have seen him at his peak! Probabaly got him for that price then too!

The forum is fine, mate... it was the crappy uk2.net shared server it sat on that was the problem.  Now we have our own dedicated server things should be much more stable.

Regarding this joint offer, if you do the maths then there`s not alot of profit in the deal for us.

Billy, £2.3M bid minus the alleged 20% sell clause = £1.84M minus the £1.5M paid for him = £340K

Copps £300K minus the £50K paid for him = £250K

£340K add £250K = £590K profit for the joint bid!

Daylight robbery if you ask me!

I can imagine that JR's mouth was watering when those two offers came in. As much as it probably undervalues the two players it's still a large sum of money for any club. Really glad they rejected it as these two are pivotal to firstly surviving next season, and secondly pushing up the league a bit more than this season. Copps is better off staying with Rovers. If he went to Ipswich he would be under a lot more pressure to perform. At Donny he is revered, why would he want to leave that. We do however need to follow up these rejections with a few signings of our own to make these two aware that we don't intend to stand still next season. Billy speaks for himself. We all know what he can do, and again we need to help him next season by taking some of the burden from him.

Probably irrelevant but Copps shares the same agent as Joe Mills and Jimmy O Connor

According to that, Jimmy is less valuable than Whitley Bay's Tomi Ameobi.

I wonder if Paul Jewell used that site to source his valuation of Copps?

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. For me, Copps is a player in a comfort zone, and you have to ask if at 29 he wants to leave it. Don't get me wrong- I think he's one of the most talented footballers I've ever seen at Rovers- and there's the rub, because with all that talent he should be playing in the Premiership, possibly for England. However, he seems happy at Donny and we're happy with him- because we know that every now and again he'll pull out a \"Southend\" performance, or he'll just be very good. But sometimes you'll hardly know he's playing. If he went to Ipswich, or some other Championship club, and put in two or three anonymous displays, the fans would soon be on his back.

In any case, £300,000 is a bloody insult and if I was him I wouldn't want to join a club who valued my talents so cheaply.

:) According to that site 30 year old Stephen Foster from Dingleland is of a higher value than Matt Mills (24), 40 year old David James is a snip at a couple of million and Grimsby's 31 year old right back (Stockdale) is of a similar price to Copps .... Strange Benchmarking! .....
