I wouldn’t be at all comfortable pushing Alfie May into a central midfield role that he’s never played before. Crawford is clearly out of favour with Dm, but he was a fairly big contributor to our success last season and I’d like to think we had more of a plan than chucking Alfie May into an unfamiliar role. We’ll see, as I type there are still 31 minutes to get incoming deals over the line. (30 minutes now).

The deals only have to be done and dusted or at an advanced stage at 5pm with proof to support that so transfers can still be processed after that 5pm in some cases.

7pm latest.

This is only adding to my excitement of a late Herbie return.
yes that Liverpool kid (related to Gerard ) got his way £2 million plus 20% to Fiorentina so hopefully they can talk sense into DumKlopp

Really weird one this. On the one hand he’s not been involved this year and was inconsistent last year so shouldn’t really be missed but on the other we are losing a squad player and not replacing him (and on a day when surely the intention was to strengthen?!)

The worst bit for me is cancelling his contract. That means Bolton aren’t tied to the deadline and have longer to sort out the signing - why on Earth are we doing them a favour?!

Yes sell him if you don’t fancy him but why would we pay his contract up?

Ridiculous

Really disappointed with this. Crawford is a grafter, he made a positive contribution to the team both on and off the ball and I always thought we looked better with him in the team. Regarding Gomes, I haven't seen enough (not seen him at all) to make a comparison.

Where have the Crawdford wages gone? There must be a plan for that.

Poor decision for me. I felt he was one of the few players who could have improved this season. Weakens the midfield and no replacement..strange.

I doubt he would command a fee. He's off the wage bill and obviously Bolton presented the opportunity to get him out. No point keeping him if he's not in DM's plans.

He was out of contract at Hamilton so I imagine with no transfer fee involved, that his wages are half decent.

Why have a player contracted to the club when you can have a loanee?

If we have paid him up then majority of his wages have gone to him.

Disappointed Ali is leaving, thought he would have kicked on this season.

DROS says 'contract cancelled by mutual consent'

That is potentially very different from paying it up in full. It is possible that we have paid nothing, or no more than a nominal amount

There must be a reason why DM doesn’t want him.  I can’t believe it would be financial, and if the manager doesn’t want him, what else could he do other than sell him for a fee.?

I'm not one to criticise the club on finances because we're essentially a small club already punching above our weight (plus we need to be sustainable)... but we really have to question the money issue on this one. We've let a contracted player leave, who will be on about the average wages the clubs gives out .... and we've signed a player on loan (signed as a free agent by another club ) who, if we're paying anything to I will be extremely disappointed. There is apparently no direct replacement, no succession planning (certainly no time to actually do it)... just a further hole in the budget.

The approach just doesn't add up.

CBCB, think before inferring things like that, you could put yourself on a sticky wicket. I think you owe some people an apology buddy.

Look at our bench currently

How in any way can anyone think it's a good idea to weaken our squad further

Bad move letting Crawford go. He should have been partnering Whiteman in midfield

As he has only left today, therefore his wages will have gone to him. He’s left by mutual consent and had his contract cancelled, we haven’t paid him up. That’s my reading of the matter.

That is exactly the deal. We have passed up any question of a transfer fee in exchange for divesting ourselves of the obligation to pay him  xxxx’s over the remaining duration of his contract.

Clearly when people say wages they are referring to strategic planning of the budget.
