He says on twitter he's signed for Accrington on a season long loan to work with his mate James Beattie . Surely a wind up?

Lots of Accrington fans will be getting hopes up with this. Wind up unless they have come into money surely.

My mate - an Accy Stanley season ticket holder - texted me about this rumour yesterday.

My reply was that some strange things happen in footy but this would take the biscuit!
He and his fellow Accy fans are getting very excited about it, not surprisingly.

Surely not...?

Of course it is a wind up.  Sure, strange loans happen but Sharpy is a Championship quality player, and young enough still to be so.  I doubt even silly money would take him to a 4th division team at this stage in his career.

Cheers

The point, Exile, was about whether or not high quality players would ever play in the 4th tier - not about whether or not a club has/had money. It's obvious to a blind man that Schmeichel went to County for money. That means that at least one player did go to the 4th tier for money rather than where his abilities suggest he should play: which was the point made originally.

I was pointing out there is at least one  exception to the rule proposed by IDM: in Schmeichel's case at least money was the driver - not the level at which he was playing.

Gotta say I'm in full agreement with you sir!
Our own Sam Hird Bob?

True he may only have gone to a division lower than his natural ability (and that in many peoples' eyes would be generous) but apparently Cheggy outbid (on the wage front) several Championship and League 1 clubs for his services, thus he ended up there! Interesting to see he's been transfer listed there now, I think at his own request!

Obviously nowhere near as blatant as Kasper Schmeichel, but you get the idea!
