Title: right
Post by: bedale rover on April 15, 2013, 02:27:54 pm
On the way back from Crewe me and DD were discussing all the permutations to enable us to get automatic promotion we agreed that the best way was for all the contenders bar us obviously to lose all their matches  but we disagreed about the outcome of the blunts Brentford match
He reckoned that a blunts win would be best as they are unlikely to win 4 games
I thought that a draw would be best for us

But now for the first time in my life I actually think that DD is onto something
A defeat for Brentford would leave them 4 points adrift of us and if we neat notts county then even if they beat us they cant overtake us

I've been saying a draw for a while but I'm leaning towards a Blades win too as I think they will then go on to drop points at Pompey.

I know DD and sense they shouldn't be in the same sentence!

a draw is best result surely closely followed by a blunts win.

nightmare scenario is bees winning and scoring two or more goals which could have a massive impact gd wise.

It's all fun and games

In my view a Sheffield win just trumps the draw.
However even a Brentford win has the positive factor of effectively knocking Blades out of contention..

Yes and then atleast we would have it in our own hands by playing Brentford in final game.In a sense any result will have good and bad effects.Just glad that their game in hand for both teams is against each other.Would be even more nervous if they both had their game in hand against other teams.

We win on Saturday, a must, won't be easy at home. Brentford and Sheff U draw on Tuesday, then both Draw on Saturday and we are promoted. The best case scenario for us.

Sheffield United are out of it. They won't win all their remaining games.

I'm also in the "blades win please" camp based on the theory that they will drop points elsewhere and if we win on Sat it means Brentford can't catch us going into the game against them.

A point for Oldham tomorrow against Yeovil  more or less finishes Pompey's season and relegates them though. So depends how up for the game they are against a Chris Morgan motivated Shef U.

Pompey are down I think. Don't think they can't get enough points to render them safe after the deduction.

Pompey still have 10pts to be deducted so they are down already.

Unnecessary - DD has never knowingly been right!

Just win both games - promoted as champions!

Blunts win. Then if all Blunts, Yeovil and Bourenmouth lose (a draw is goos too) we could be promoted before the Brentford/monkey hangers game Saturday night. Should 1 of the three win (such as Sheff United) we can be promoted at 7pm Saturday and Champions on the Tuesday in the Crewe/Blunts game.

Pompey down or not will put up a fight this sat against the big club that is sheffield un-united.

They put up a fight at brentford and will do the same. They are that sort of club. Down or not. The fans now have ownership and they will expect nothing less.

We'll call it recompense for the game last year. They will do us a favour.

Forget Yeovil - if we win in Saturday they can't catch us.

All the different combinations of Sheff Utd/Brentford will be irrelevant if we win and Bournemouth don't.

Pompey still have 10pts to be deducted so they are down already.
But if they get enough points to stay up this season before the 10 point deduction, the deduction is applied this season thus relegating them and allowing them to start on 0 points next season.
If they dont get enough points to stay up anyway, the 10 point deduction is applied next season so they would start on -10 points.

It will be Portsmouth,s first home game since the supporters trust take over ,so hopefully they will be fired up for the visit of the blunts

Spot on IDM.  Whats the point being concerned about something that come Saturday evening may not have any effect on us whatsoever.

Well, I cant believe, after all we know about Sheff Utd, that some folks expect them to win tomorrow.

I'll be backing it as a draw at best.

A draw for me.

I don't buy all this Blades to win, as they have less chance of winning all their other games. If they win Tuesday, they only need to win their next 3. Hardly impossible, especially with some momentum that they will be on. Folks ruled Bournmuff out of, saying they can't win them all, but they're making a darn good job of it. Is that 5 or 6 or 7 on the bounce and only 2 winnable ones to go.

Donny to win Satdi to set it up for promotion

For sure the win on sat is what matters for us, but a 5-0 victory for Sheff also gives us what could be a crucial goal diff advantage over Brentford.

The other match tonight that has bearing - if Yeovil beat Oldham does that gives Hartlepool that extra impetus against Brentford on saturday... or does it give them pressure and nerves?

I strongly disagree with all the Sheff U to win scenarios. A 0-0 draw and a win for us on Saturday will effectively do it. A good win or a win that betters Brentfords on Saturday will even more effectively do it. I'd rather have it that the Bees have to beat us 2 or 3 nil on the last day. Personally, I think we will win there or get a draw at worse
