Just been to Morrison's and lots of the shelves are bare. Anti-bacterial handwash is completely out, and they don't know if they'll be able to get any more. The toilet roll situation is almost as bad.
It seems people are panicking already.
-
They've been reading the BBC news and BSTs sensationalist reporting.
Be rayt, put kettle on.

.... and as I posted earlier on the other thread
Asian Flu in 1957 which I actually had along with Brother Mother and Dad came toUK in Summer of 57 and by Christmas almost 4000 were dead !
Lets hope we get nowhere near that
USA in summer 57 to summer 58 almost 70,000 died - so again lets hope it doesnt get that bad - nor claim the lives of between 1 and 2 MILLION

I don't know what people are worrying about.
Priti Patel will sort it.

Ive just seen pictures of a large Sainsburys in Lincoln toilet roll shelves stripped bare get a friggin grip people and buy a Daily Mail or Sun everyday ..... well you don't even need one a day a couple will last a couple of weeks if you tear it down into squares and hammer a little nail into your bog wall :)
-
I was thinking exactly the same Dagenhamm. If we can't improvise on toilet rolls it's time to pack in.
-
All I've delivered to customers this week is bog roll and tinned food. In context our deliveries are akin to Christmas week.

Daily Mail and Sun?
I wouldn't wipe my arse on them.

Hasn't anybody told people that anti-bacterial does sod all to viruses?

Exactly - and you and I will well remember Outside Loos and pieces of newspaper rammed on a nail at the back of the door !
Then when you thought your luck was in Izal Bog paper- only slightly better than the Newspaper

Worse was when you were down to the glossy pages of the pull-out

Yep, jizzing over Readers Wives was always a problem.
A full load would often stick 5 or 6 pages together.

I never took a shine to glossy paper as I was always worried there might still be some staples left in.😉

Looked like a scene out of ghostbusters. Ectoplasm everywhere

Panic buying causes more shortages than there were to start the panic in the first place..

are 50 year old examples really relevant?

Just been to CostCo in Sheffield for the monthly big shop.
No sign of any panic buying at all. All the shelves well stocked.

Why aren't they? Do you reckon the fundamentals of epidemics have changed?

Might have seen you BST. Just been there myself. And I did need loo roll but at least at Costco you have no option but to buy bulk😄. Certainly no shortage of anything I wanted.

Just look out for someone checking his phone, violently face-palming and shouting "For f**k's sake! No!"

I've got to say the vision on the Aus news showing three women fighting over bog rolls in woollies is a bit unedifying.

In a lot of the world toilet paper is an unnecessary luxury!! A small pail of water in your hand and I will leave the rest to your imaginations, works just fine ;)

Cheers BST
I was quoting 1957 for 2 reasons
1) lots of people on here going into hysterics probably whipped up by Social Media - and panic buying and worrying etc when Asian Flu was massively much more serious - and so I was comparing then and now
2) However - there are lots of people not giving a damn and readily dismissing everything the see and read as if this is just something that will get others and perhaps not them SO what I was saying is this is exactly how Asian Flu began so everyone needs to be aware of the consequences IF the thing gets going
Remember in UK we started seeing cases in Summer 57 and by Christmas 57 nearly 4000 had pegged it - not just had it sneezed a bit laid in bed a bit - but pegged it

Nah, as a Boy Scout we learned that all you needed was a bus ticket.
Method....
Fold bus ticket in half.
Fold in half again in the opposite direction.
Now tear off the corner where there is no lose edge.
Next, and this stage is VITALLY IMPORTANT, grip the corner you've ripped off between your teeth. DO NOT OMIT THIS STAGE!
Now unfold the bus ticket and you'll find it has a hole in the middle.
Insert the middle finger of your left hand through this hole.
Push middle finger completely up your anus and rotate back and forth to wipe anus.
Remove finger from anus.
With your right hand, slowly pull down the bus ticket to clean your finger.
I hope you didn't forget to grip that corner you ripped off between your teeth.......
Take this corner from your teeth with your right hand and use it to scrape the shit from under your left middle finger nail.
Sorted.
