Title: Taxi cancelled
Post by: StocksArmy on December 03, 2011, 05:11:52 pm
For Brian Stock. Absolute class act and so unlucky not to pick up MOTM in my opinion. Beye awsome Fortune awsome Hird awsome Gillett shocking thats my only negative. Consistancy is key now. RTID :scarf:

Must disagree I thought Gillet covered the ground well and never gave anything away. Improvement from Stocky but still short of his best. RTID

Just shows the difference in opinions, i thought stock didnt have a bad game but seemed to hold the ball too long then lost possession and lacked a final pass.

Only player lacking wad illunga, especially 2nd half.
Overheard saints fan \"our old dwarf played well\".
To be fair he ought to stand with somebody else in a line up, next to goulon gillett looked like a small mascot

Imo Gillett had a good game and Stocky a shade above his average. It is strange how Gillet has now become Willo's replacement as the new 'whipping boy' why the fook do we have to do this to our players!!
Very impressed by Goulon too, he could prove to be invaluable over the next few games.

Illunga was terrible and always is, if he tried and was still crap I wouldn't mind.
I think he is the player why some people aren't fans of the Mckay factor, because Ikeme, Beye and Diouf have given 100% in every game and really seem bothered.

Illunga would not look out of place around the halfway stage of a marathon, the speed he gets back to defend.

Stock Sam Hird and Oconnor threw themselves into everything today and were excellent.

I thought, and so did the majority of the people around me (must be the prawns), that Stock was slow and though he had a good game by his standards, it wasn't very good by a championship midfielders standards.

Gillett was poor.
Stock is too slow and was repeatedly robbed of the ball
Goulon was good but you could see he was going to get sent off.
Coppinger was good.
O'Connor was out of position a lot but at least looked bothered
Beye was good
Hird was good (yes, I know)
Illunga was mixed, though not as mixed as Friend when he came on
Barnes was good
Fortune was excellent
Sharp was excellent, looked a lot more bothered, in fact the whole team did
Ikeme is just a class keeper

Nice of Diouf to come to the game too, he spent ages in the hospitality area signing autographs even when the game was going on. What a nice fella. He's needn't have turned out on a cold, wet, Doncaster afternoon, but he did. What a good bloke....what was that about \"big time charlie syndrome\"?

AGREED Gillet did put in a great shift against his old employers as did Stock. Both gave a lot and had good attempts on goal

Goulon did make him look like a dwarf but Gillet made Goulon look like a beached whale speed wise !

Stock was robbed of the ball a couple of times but his vision and quality of passing were tremendous. I sometimes think you watch a different game to me Benaldo.

To say Beye and Hird were \"good\" is an understatement- both had outstanding games and worked together like good centre-backs should. And I thought Gillett had his best game for a long time.

Best I've seen us play for a long time and if it carries on like that I might start enjoying my football again!

Again was just my opinion but I honestly thought Stock was immense he has always been slow but won every challenge he went into and had he not been on the pitch I don't think we would have won the game. As for Goulon I was really disappointed that he went off my god we have been crying out for a player like him for as long as I can remember! I also think he will bring out the best in Oster too.

good to hear that saw him round the dug out area near the start with chambers and some others with drfc jackets and hats on so couldn't see who they were

this is what we want players who want to be there even when not playing just like stock did and sharp did when they had there injurys

I also thought Stock was great today, my MOM. His vision is far better than anyone else in our squad and pings great passes around for fun. There was one instance where he stalled with the ball and got surrounded by three Southampton players, I think this may stick out in people's minds above his very good performance. On another note I thought everyone except Gillet and Illunga were excellent and I don't even think those two played badly, just OK. I was a little concerned when Goulon was taken off because I thought him and Stock formed a great partnership, but it turned out Stock and Barnes were good together too.

Again just an opinion but i thought Goulon was terrible, contantly out of position and 15 yards off his man all the time. Was very clumsy, kept clipping Southampton players heels!

For me the thing that stood out most from today's performance was the shift that everyone put in.

Fantastic effort against a team not short on confidence and proof that if you work hard as a team the rewards will come.

Well done boys

Only messing, wasn't at the match today so can't really judge!

The taxi was never needed!! The original thread saying how bad he was  in the milwall game was done by someone who wasn't even there.
Anyway i thought stocky was quality today and i believe he is a quality player and a great leader and captain for us. He is our only midfielder that has vision (well maybe oster has too) he also links the defence and attack brilliantly and gave everything today.

2 words for stocky today= captains example.its not just what he does with the ball its looking after lads and that is why he should never of had it taken off him the only reason it did was because it was saunders 1st game and he just said who was captain last game and it was friend so he got it. team today awesome eg hird stocky billy the old boys did well i just hope they still around come feb

Benaldo. You obviously know sod all about football if you think Stock was anything but absolutely outstanding today. He completely ran the show and was all over the pitch making things happen. He got surrounded and caught in possession once and that's all you see. I give up.

Well he may have got robbed a couple of times but he was my MotM, the fact our defence didn't look too troubled should tell you all you need to know about the midfield today, and Stock was the pick of the bunch.

Stock's performance as a whole was typical Wilson performance. Coming from me that means he is back to his best as a holding midfielder.

I don't think Benaldo doesn't like anybody who doesn't get up the field that often (Gillet, Wilson, Stock), unless there are a DS signing of course...

I think I can understand what Crofty means as I've always believed that in the past when Wilson played his best games and did the holding midfielder job well, then the likes of Copps, Oster, Stock etc were all able to play their games effectively. Wilson had a role and did it well most of the time (regardless of being a favourite scapegoat of many on here.)

It would seem to me that as Stocky has got a little older, his job now is to sit in front of the defence more to hold and thread things together, allowing (in this team) Diouf, Goulon, Copps, Oster, Gillett, Barnes, Bennett and the two full backs to bomb on more.

That's what Wilson did - now it's what Stock does - it's a very different role to the one he had in the team with the likes of Green, Wellens, Spicer et al - but the fact that he's a class act (and without doubt in my opinion still key to everything good Rovers can do) allows him to do the job very well - Stocky is without doubt one of the finest midfield players I've seen in 27 seasons at our club.

I really can't beleive it. We beat top of the league today with Stock instrumental in pulling the strings in midfield and putting tackles in and people still don't see it. It was another Rolls Royce performance from Stocky. I can remember him getting caught in pocession once, I don't know where 'a couple of times' is coming from. I guess when you have a chip on your shoulder it just won't budge.

Other mentions for Copps, Jimmy, Beye and Hird. That Do Prado bloke is a tough customer to handle and on the whole Sam did pretty well. Jimmy seems to be getting back to the Old Jimmy and Copps looked well up for it today.

CJK: Agreed - Rolls Royce Stock - when he's on his game Rovers are on theirs, as has always been the case throughout his time here - I know we've had good form when Stock's had his injuries too but he is key to everything good about Rovers and hopefully he'll somehow manage to stay fit and well (fingers crossed) and keep doing the good stuff for DRFC till his career ends!

Ye it's a shame he couldn't have got rid of the ball about fifteen minutes into the second half and release Fortune to set up a goal.

Calm down Willie, I'm sure the majority of Rovers fans are more than happy to have Dioufy at the club and to have signed a contract extension.

Don't get too close though because...........

From where I was sitting Stocky had a good game, he put himself about, won tackles and his passing was good. I thought Gillet was ok although there were times when I didn't realise he was playing. Illunga did ok, everything went down the left in the second half but it was clear that he wanted to keep the ball on the deck instead of pumping it long like Jimmy did more often that not.

IMO as well Goulon was terrible, he couldn't get the ball under control and looked very clumsy. I can't remember him winning any headers either for such a tall player.

I just thought we wanted it more than them today and we were fired up. We got in their faces and fought for the 3 points which is what we lacked with SOD.
