Seen the articles this week about Coppinger one game away from his 300th game.
It got me thinking, what is our top ten appearances for the club and who was the last to go through 300 and how many have?
I suppose Colin Douglas was the last to go past 300.
I know Dutch Uncle is usually very good at this sort of stuff.
Thanks in advance

I completely defer to the Red Baron on this, and the following is from him
Rovers players with 300 league appearances:
EMERY, Frederick David (Fred) 417
DOUGLAS, Colin Francis 404
TINDILL, Herbert (Bert) 401
MAKEPEACE, Brian 353
BYCROFT, Sydney (Syd) 336
PEACOCK, Dennis 329
GRAHAM, William George Leonard (Len) 312
SNODIN, Glynn 309
HARDWICK, Kenneth (Ken) 307
The three most recent are Douglas, Snodin and Peacock, with Dougie being indeed the most recent
-
I wonder if we'll ever see the magic 418. Doubt it now.
-
Husband could if we keep hold of him could pass 400
-
Thanks for that. I knew you would come up trumps.
Shame Dougie went to Rotherham for a few years or he would have been well over 500. I doubt we will see another player get near 300 appearances for the club.
Same with Dennis, he would have done well over 400 had he not had a couple of years at Bolton and had stiff competition from Willie Boyd.

Thanks, but please - these figures are from the Red Baron - I claim no credit at all; he has a truly amazing collection of detailed stats, as do Club Statisticians Tony Bluff and Barry Watson.
-
I wish I did. I love all this sort of stuff.
-
Interesting that Glynn scored 59 goals from full back in those appearances and Duggie scored 53 goals, 48 in his first spell as a striker, before converting to centre half in his second spell
-
Snodin played a lot of games on the wing during his time at Donny.
-
Thanks Dutch. I have to say I disagree that Saturday is likely to see Coppinger's 300th League appearance, for reasons I've outlined here:

Cheers TRB
Interesting that this weekend's match will probably be feted as Copps 300th league appearance, and possibly (if we avoid defeat) as a new club record for undefeated away games.
In reality both milestones are open to discussion and interpretation!
-
David Harle - 219 appearances and never went past a player or passed the ball forward, although he did score that goal against QPR.

Yet amazingly still managed to get an England u19 cap.

Maybe if some of todays players were as honest as he was professional football would be a better place

I wonder if we'll ever see the magic 418. Doubt it now.
Assuming Copps features in almost all our remaining 20 fixtures this season, and IF we can sign him up for another 2 years, IF he keeps fit he could push towards 400.
-
Interesting to note Stocky clocked up over 200 games for us. Considering he seemed to be injured half the time that does surprise me!
-
Interesting to that Syd Bycroft only scored 2 goals during all those appearances. Players really did stick to their respective positions in those days of 5-3-2.

And IF he stays good enough to get into the team.

On the other hand Hools he played in one East Midlands Wartime League match in 1940 against Mansfield with a number 9 on his back...................and scored 4 goals. He was then promptly returned to centre-half for the rest of the season - and indeed his entire Rovers career. Clearly a failure at Centre-forward!

My Rovers hero Dutch and from what I've heard /read about him not only a formidable player but a decent man too who did put 100% effort in all the time.

interesting reading, what about the top 10-20 all time goalscorers?

Just seen this. It is impossible to be 100% accurate because of conflicting sources, not least with regards to own goals. Here is a list that should be close. Criteria for 'Other' matches exactly as given by The Red Baron in his post about appearances above:
Seasons Lge Oth Total
T.Keetley 1923-28 180 6 186
A.Jeffrey 1954-56 & 63-68 127 12 139
B.Tindill 1946-57 124 9 133
P.Kitchen 1970-76 89 16 105
B.O'Callaghan 1973-77 65 12 77
C.Douglas 1981-85 & 88-92 53 9 62
C.Booth 1962-63 57 5 62
G.Snodin 1977-84 & 98 59 3 62
P.Doherty 1949-52 57 3 60
P.Todd 1946-49 50 8 58
P.Heffernan 2005-10 36 18 54
I would definitely recommend 'Doncaster Rovers - The Complete History' by Tony Bluff.
