The centre half hunt...
« on July 18, 2017, 10:34:54 am by GazLaz »
We seem to be struggling to find someone that fits the bill. There were over 100 central defenders playing regularly in L2 and the conference last season, there must be quite a few in there that are capable of playing L1 level to a good standard and that we could tempt away.

Alex Bruce would be a good fit... if he fits in with our budget of course.

No to Greer,Williamson and Wes Brown for me. We shouldn't be looking at any outfield player over the age of 35 in my opinion.

I think we need 2 CBs anyway now. Maybe somebody like Bruce with a lot of experience but not too old,and then probably a season long loan for a younger quicker CB.

Gordon Greer, wes brown, Alex Bruce, kelvin wilson, Sebastian bassong, ryan bennet, Lewis nyatanga, mike Williamson, Steven Taylor.. these all fit the bill of being an experienced free agent.

sometimes the answer is (might be) right in front of your eyes

wonder what the chances are of getting in a centre half loanee from Derby or Wednesday after the matches ?

remember this happened when Matt Mills played for Man City subsequent loan

Did'nt JR have some kind of link with Man City at the time?Minority shareholder business friends or something like that?Maybe why the friendly was arranged too.Or was that publicity waffle?

As regards the CH hunt,we may not be struggling that much,DF's early targets opted elsewhere and I would think he will have several serious targets now,and he may have options now,but why rush a decision on any free agents, especially if he has an eye on better or youger players and is waiting to see what their parent clubs,or clubs higher than us giving the said player a trial to make their decision before he can act further.Free agent player/players may be seen tonight?

Majority of names on here are fantasy.

Times have changed since Steve Nicol. Anyone who has played at least a few seasons in the Premier League or perhaps even also the Championship has likely earned enough money by the time that they are in their early thirties, that they just don't fancy becoming a squad player fighting to start for for a mid-table League One club.

This is before we get on to the money question. These guys will be expecting 10/15/20k per week. Way above our budget for a player with no sell-on value.

Still think this guy would be a decent signing, right age, size etc for Fergie to work his magic:

He was atrocious against us last season. Worst performance by anyone I saw at the keepmoat (opposition player anyway).

That's just one game, he was excellent for the most part last season and the one before

Yes, an excellent player in that Wycombe team. I seem to remember he made a great goal-saving block against us as well didn't he?

We need three defenders and two of them need experience at this level or above as anything else is a bigger risk signing!!!

Because when the transfer window shuts we cant sign anyone on loan and its better to be over covered for a positiojn than under covered.  Even if one of the three was just a six month deal that would be good enough!!!

Its worrying that fergie's never had a good defence though anywhere he's managed.

I'd say we need two defenders, one of which can hopefully be Taylor. We need cover for Baudry and the aforementioned commanding centre half he's wanted all summer. That would give us a defensive roster of:

Andrew, Garratt
Baudry, Butler, Taylor, A.N. Other, Wright, Fielding, Mason
Alcock, Blair

That doesn't even include McCullough or the young Walker. How is that not enough?
