Great news, even if it ends up being made to just a loan like the Houghton deal did, it would be decent to have him until the end of the season..

Yes just noticed it’s been moved. Totally unnecessary when it is linking to an article in the Free Press with quotes from Ferguson. It’s hardly leaking inside knowledge!

If it's not a done deal then I don't have a problem with it being moved, it's hardly a hardship to read stuff in another section is it.

If the DFP are reporting it, so be it. Just a they announced the Whiteman's loan move was to be extended, they then had to about turn.

Anyway, you can't be too careful with our 6 fingered cousins! 😉

I know we're looking at a permanent move but what I'm getting at is it may downgrade to a loan (like Houghton) if we don't meet demands.

I like Whiteman & if we can get him it would be a right coup for the club - minimum of 3 year contract, he’s only young and it would be a shrewd investment if it comes off - fingers crossed

Agreed Nicky. Just the kind of investment we need to make. He’s a work in progress but that is exactly what we should be investing in. Other clubs can pay over the odds for the supposed finished article but if we were able to secure Whiteman long term and he continues to make the progress he has then it represents a great investment for the club. Fingers crossed on this one.

What’s everyone’s gut feeling on a fee? Will 200k get him?

Much less imo. 50k and sell on clause I would think. Its the sell on they'll want most. Maybe a buy back clause also.

It a really about buying potential.  My frustration is training him up for someone else. Clearly improving so worth the buy.

In reality BFYP it is always going to be the case isn’t it, developing young players and selling them on if they turn out to be good enough.
Always has been for a small club.

Blades have paid £800,000 for Leonard and the same amount +/- for Lee Evans so it would be surprising if we got him for less than £1,500,000 .

Irrespective of what the fee could be, I think he would be a good investment as a player that can fit straight in and who will learn and get better. Exactly the profile we need.

If he was worth 1.5m then they would not need one of the other 2 as that would make him better than them both would it not

I reckon one of the money clubs will pay £500k for him.  Not that he's worth that now but to get someone with very obvious potential.

I don't think we should really be too concerned about the fee. I'm sure the professionals will work that out. What is important as said, is the potential in him for us going forward. I'm guessing such an acquisition might also help to encourage Houghton to make his mind up.

I hope I'm not tempting fate, and although we've yet to see Kiwomya, the likes of Mason, Wright, Whiteman, Houghton, Andrew and Lawlor will give us a sound young crop to work with. Should any of Garrett, Mandeville, May, Beestin etc., step up in the next 12 months, we're looking good.

Of course, in to the mix we'll need match-winners to supplement or replace our more senior performers.

You might be right but I think it will be a bit less than than as he is unproven higher than us and Mansfield last season
