That is Madger Gomes, the more I see this lad, the more I am impressed - he had his best game yet at Stadium of Light & is getting better as he matures - add to this, he’s a Spaniard playing abroad which adds to his achievement in my book - the lad can do just about the lot in the advanced midfield berth - he can run, tackle and pass to good effect & am hoping we can get him nailed down to a longer contract to reflect his growing importance to the team

I think he left us a couple, Gomes, James, didn’t he have the Sheaf deal lined up too?
He’s a good manager, just a shame he left a bitter taste in our mouth the way he left

McCain was a good manager. As well as the players he brought in he left the Sheaf deal oven ready so it was a pizza cake for Moore to get him over the line.
I think he had a few more players lined up but Blunt said he had to feed off scraps.

Was my mom - Anderson & Wright were immense but in terms of player improvement Madger has come the furthest

Amazing when others have committed this heinous crime ( the typo) they have been given the title of having learning difficulties by pigeonhole .So be careful when this predator see this you may as-well throw yourself under the next bus before he tars and feather you . 😂

He looks better in an advanced position imo. He’s still young and has improved significantly in his time here thus far 👍👀

Gomes also has an excellent coach in DM that won’t have down him any harm. He looked very good on Friday. He was at Liverpool and Leeds so he obviously has something. Poor taste in the case of him being at Leeds but anyway...

He has improved and tends to do well protecting the back 4 what let’s him down for me is his end product, maybe that will come in time but would bring copps or sadlier back in on Tuesday for him

Very harsh if Gomes doesn’t start on Tuesday.. more likely John would be out for Sadlier.
But I would like to see Copps start too..

How did he get deals over the line? I actually think Moore is the better coach. McCann wouldn't get the same out of this squad.

Gomes doesn’t always play defensive MF, was quite far forward on Friday..

He was a bit weak and limp when he arrived at the club, but after a good shake up by DM he's now solid and crisp.

I think he's a player who's gradually worked it out. Not entirely sure of his surroundings to start off with, not quite up with the pace of the game and sometimes when he got the ball, tried to be too clever, and maybe without the ball was a bit too rash with the tackle. He's played bit parts in games at every level with us, from u23s at Cantley Park, JPT games at an empty KM, odd sub appearences for the first team, so it must have been hard for him to find his feet. Ironically, I thought he played really well in the game at Southend when he got about the pitch but also showed a good range of passing and some deft touches, particularly a cute pass to set up Alfie May for a goal. Then you think this kid has got something.
At Sunderland on Friday he showed he's got a bit of everything so let's hope he makes it difficult for DM to leave him on the bench for the rest of the season.
Not so long ago you would shiver with the thought of him getting ahead of Copps in the starting XI but now, you'd think fair do's, he can do a job.

I must be the only one that doesn’t rate him. He had some ok touches on Friday when he was given bundles of time but he wasn’t great. Poor second half when he had a lot less space.

Yes agree with all these posts about Gomes. He is very promising and i think many people were expecting too much from him earlier in the season.
He is a young player still learning his trade.
Where he needs to improve most is his consistency over a full 90+ mins.
As good as he was in the 1st half on Friday he was virtually non existent in the last 25/30 mins as he was running on empty.
I thought Sheaf was actually doing the work of two players as his energy levels were quite extraordinary.
That’s not me having a go at at Gomes it is just saying he is not the finished article yet and we shouldn’t expect too much from him based on that first 45 mins on Friday.
We won’t see the best of him for another season or two at least.

Sheaf was outstanding, and I thought man of the match, with Anderson being a close second.
One thing was blindingly obvious was our lack of pace up front, Ennis did well to keep the centre backs entertained, but had no one to play off.
