Transfers out - with money changing hands
« on June 17, 2019, 07:54:37 am by Donnywolf »
Currently discussing JM and his potential transfer got me thinking - who were the last 10 Players we actually sold to a different Club and how much did we get ?

Cant find a list and my memory is appalling - and cant remember the last player we sold

EDIT : Now found this https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/doncaster-rovers/transfers/verein/2454/plus/0?saison_id=2013&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=

Shows James Husband at £567,000 in 2014/15 but Curtis Main and a few others just have ? listed under Fee

Hmmm, looks a tad unreliable.

Apparently we signed Max Watters twice last season and he's under contract until 3019 with us. That's a good contract for the lad.

OK DW I will have a go at guessing (there are so many transfers ‘undisclosed’). How about the following?

2015: James Husband (500K – Curtis Main 150K??)
2012: Brian Stock 100K
2012: James O’Connor 150K
2012: George Friend 250K
2012: Billy Sharp 1.85M
2012: Waide Fairhurst 30K
2009: Matt Mills 2M
2009: Richie Wellens 1.2M
2006: Ricky Ravenhill 50K
2006: Michael McIndoe 150K

They paid us £150K to take Main? They should have given us more!

Stock and Friend didn't go that cheap, surely?

I think it was worse than that DO. ;)

IIRC it was a player exchange with Husband valued at 500K and Main at 150K, so we received 350K plus Main

I'm sure I read on here we got a really good deal for either friend or husband. Doesn't look like it

While never sure of the exact figures RA, IIRC it was a desperate firesale after the relegation in the Experiment season, and we needed high earners off the books, even with accepting low fees.

I think George Friend waived some fee due to him to help the club, or something similar. He certainly came across as a true Gent as well as a Friend of DRFC    :chair:

A shame but I suppose you're right Dutch. Was looking at Stock's career yesterday and he was dropping into non-league two years after leaving us which is baffling on the face of it because he was probably the best individual player of all of that Golden Era side and yet he never really did anything after leaving.

Just to add to this - the following Title Winning season of 2012-13 has (challenged only perhaps by 2003-04) to be the greatest exceeding of expectations in the history of our club. After the firesale of the summer of 2012 (I see I had the year wrong in my OP)  I had us down for a second successive relegation. How wrong was that    :scarf:

Through friend left on a free after waving goodbye to a £100,000 we owed him in loyalty bonus.

RA I agree Stock could have played at a much higher level, I think the drop to non league had something to do with his (or his wife’s) business if I recall.
Having been to the recent legends game he can still pick out a pass, granted it was almost a park game but he stuck out like a sore thumb. To add to that a really nice friendly guy too

Some of those fees were criminally low. McIndoe was an absolute travesty and Sharp - granted he probably would not have signed were it not for that clause being in his contract - was at very least 50pc of fee we should have expected.

If Sharp had gone to Southampton in the close season hadn’t they offered £3 million?
I would imagine the difference meant he got a big signing on fee and wages with Southampton having the extra £1.7 million to fund it.

My memory may fail me but I think Leicester offered a lot more to us but Sharp didn’t want to go there (perhaps due to wages on offer?) and round about that time it ‘became known’ about the basement fee clause in his contract, whereby Southampton duly offered and Billy signed. Whether this was put out there by his agent and his client then scooped up the effective fee difference in wages, who could possible say...

Some news reports suggest Sharp was sold for 2million

Although all figures I have put were mainly rumours and occasionally guesswork, apologies for a misprint in my first post - the fee I had seen for Sharp was 1.85M, not 1.185M. Now corrected.

It's funny to see Waide Fairhurst in that list. I remember him as a bit of a cheeky young lad with a talent reminiscent of Liam Mandeville. He was not in the same league as the rest and did well to fetch a fee.

We basically got back exactly what we paid for Sharp - which was an absolute travesty.
