Ruled himself out of the positionhttps://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/17724460.richie-wellens-rules-himself-out-of-contention-for-vacant-doncaster-rovers-job-adding-he-owes-loyalty-to-chairman-lee-power-and-supporters/(I don't think he was in contention anyway)
Always had him down as a Roy Keane type figure. All full of passion and energy as a player and scant time for other players not as good or committed. Having to motivate sometimes quite crap players as a manager will be a challenge given his own very high standards. Not sure Keane had it in him to realise 95pc of players he would have to manage would be half the player he was.
Some very apt quotes in there:"Wellens said: “I wanted loyalty off of some players towards the end of last season. And I think it’d be wrong of me not to show that loyalty back.“I’m starting to build my own team now, which is difficult to get.“It’d be wrong of me to walk away at the first opportunity. If I was asked ‘would I like to manage Doncaster Rovers?’ – yes, I would."Happy to have him back one day if the stars align and he does well at Swindon. Always liked Richie to be honest.
Roy Keane has just left Notts Forest to go it alone . mmm
Whilst I don’t think he’d have been in contention anyway, that’s a great interview. Everything that we should have seen and heard from McCann this week.

Flitcroft would be a disaster.
