Todays team, Jack Goodman starts

& Bobby, hallelujah.
-
Why a horrid line up. Can see a 3+ goal loss today.
-
Glad to see Faulkner and Goodman get a game. Wish it was with some better players around them.

We've been having those with our supposed best eleven, hold tight.
-
That's a young back line

2' Bobby Faulkner is out quickly to close down Aiden O'Brien and put the ball behind.
The resulting corner is headed over by Tom Nichols.

All Gillingham at the moment

Give us a kick of the ball please

12' Oli Hawkins heads MacDonald's cross over the bar.

14' Good chance for Rovers as Ben Close forces a save from Glenn Morris down to his right.

No Anderson again

Tommy Rowe receives some treatment but is back up and able to continue.

I have no idea what system DS is trying to play and it seems the players have no idea either. It's the usual stuff we produce every week and looks like it's just a matter of time before we concede
-
SO CLOSE! Ben Nelson's goal bound header is nodded up onto the bar by a Gillingham defender.

We look so much better than we have for weeks, playing 3 in the middle helps!
-
They are doing well and are currently the better team, plenty of fight, desire, some good play and with shots!
-
I think that confidence is kicking in and it’s looking more promising
-
36 mins and i think we have settled in now. Young lads doing well. Had a couple of good chances. Not playing out from the back.
-
37' A break in play here as Gillingham's Conor Masterson receives treatment for a head injury.

As daft at it may seem, that wont count as an attempt on target.
-
43' Goal Gillingham. Tom Nichols gives the home side the lead.
A long throw into the box fell to Nichols at the back post, who volleyed in his sixth goal for the Gills.

Maybe pessimistic, but only one chance produced this half. Without producing shots on goal there is little chance of scoring.
-
When you’re lucks out it’s out, a good finish by their player. We don’t deserve it, but let’s see what happens next, will we shrink and concede a few, or show some fight.
-
that's probably it then ☹
-
Not quite sure how this guy is going to be in a job next season. Our striker is never anything more than an 11th man.
-
We have hit the bar from Longs header, and the post I think from Closes shot. We have also had numerous strikes at goal - that is a million times better than the past few weeks
-
We have ruined Miller now let's ruin Goodman.
No attacking intent at all.
Nothing this guy is going to do is with an attacking enthusiasm.
Please get rid of this clown
-
Don’t worry we’re going to have an injection of funds for next season
-
I'm not supporting DS but Arteta or Guadialo wouldn't get a result with this line up and the squad available.
-
Not sure some commenting are watching this game? We have had more threat than them so far.
-
We had a warning in the first few minutes when we left a player on his own at the back post and he headed it over when he should have scored. We do exactly the same thing near half time but this time they score. We can't score and we can't defend.
-

Are you serious?
-
The Gillingham commentary team reckon they just about shaded what they described as a scrappy first half.
They also said our forward line lacked physicality, presence and threat.
-
Feel a bit sorry for Goodman all alone up top while his team mates meander around
-
Annoying thing, is that these lot dont actually look that good.. shame one goal was all that's needed...
-
Typical Nieves defending by us again to concede. But when you have a big target man worthy of the title he takes the attention of all our defenders away allowing a player out wide left and unmarked to score with all the time in the world. You could say it was Moly’s man but I never thought I’d see him playing at left wingback?
We must be exhibiting the lightest and weakest midfield this side of Bessacarr boys under 13’s. This looks like a 541 formation of the very worst type, Really feel for Goodman who is left isolated like ever forward we have played this season.
Whatever DS is saying to the team they just have no conception of what he wants and it shows in every game,
This can go either as a hard fought one goal loss or another capitulation, what’s the odds of another demoralising loss.
I just cannot see where this guy can spend our benefactors money in a profitable way, every player he’s brought in has become nervy and risk averse to the extent that they cannot play with any forward momentum, Westbrook’s is the latest to fall into line, and become a rearward facing back pass specialist.
Just get rid before he does any more damage and keep your cash in your pocket Mr B.

Pretty much spot on I'd say. We've competed well, had a few little spells where we've shown a bit of quality and managed a decent effort on goal, and switched off on a long throw to concede.
Goodman is trying, and the biggest compliment I can give him is that, in terms of physicality and competing for the ball, he doesn't look like an 18 year old on his first senior start. But when you're as isolated as our lone strikers are under this manager, it's a thankless task. We'd make Haaland look helpless.

We’ve had 4 shots to their 7, you must be watching a different game

A weaker team with several first choice players out yet folk expect better results from DS?
With the line ups we're able to put out it's looking for the positives particularly from the young players. Any positive performances and results are a bonus under difficult circumstances.
-
53' Molyneux floats a ball into the box but Glenn Morris is there to claim it.

I'm not expecting better results over these last few games Baz but lets be honest, we haven't looked like getting many good results under Schofield.
I was expecting his defenders to use the injuries as his free pass from now to the end of the season though.
-
59' Nichols' has two attempts at goal, the second of which ends up on the roof of the net.
1-0

Referee's decided young strikers early in their career are fair game for defenders.
-
66' Three changes for Rovers.
ON - James Brown, Liam Ravenhill & Kieran Agard
OFF - Charlie Seaman, Tommy Rowe & Jack Goodman
1-0

69' Aidan Barlow makes a good run forward but his pass can't find Agard.

It's not a case of expecting better results, it's more a case of seeing some signs of any kind of system. The only real positives are the 2 youngsters, the rest can join DS in the taxi queue.

Defiantely watching, we just had 5 men against Goodman before he got cramp
-

Very frustrating, he's let them clatter Goodman from behind numerous times

It's a problem that we're in league two and that's the situation we're in though, yeah?

Nah it’s all ok. Asking a bit much to win a game or really have a go. Should be proud of the loss and any result is a bonus.
Jesus how low expectations are! Honestly don’t think we’ll win a game again this season and some think that’s sound!
-
77' Mitchell gets down well to deny the substitute George Lapslie.
1-0

A better second half, 2 shots on target so far.
-
83' Molyneux cuts inside and shoots from 25 yards but his effort is always rising over the bar.

84' Agard is off target with his shot after finding space behind the Gillingham defence.

I think there are two very different but equally frustrating ways of looking at this game:
We've been marginally second best
and are likely to lose against a bottom third league two team having started the season aiming for promotion.
OR
We've competed well and arguably deserve a point away against one of the form teams in league two with an extremely weakened side.
Imagine if we'd gone for it this season, because my god, this is an appalling league.
-
Full time 1-0. It sounded a better game to listen to but it’s yet another defeat.
On to Monday
Onwards and upwards
COYR
-
A slightly better performance but two sides reflecting their league positions. Both lacking in creativity, lots of scrappy play and very little quality from either side. A reflection on the poor standard in league 2 this season.
-
10 shots and scrapped. That is an improvement particularly with the players available.
-
Exactly. So it shouldn't take too much to turn the squad into contenders.
I've yet to see any team be head and shoulders above any other and we, more often than not, have shot ourselves in the foot.
The Free Press reporting sounded quite positive about today's performance.
-

Final tally
Gills 13 shots - 4 on target
Rovers 10 shots - 3 on target
Reflects what I watched, a very even game. We deserved a point from today. Much improved from a very low starting point.

88' Aidan Barlow is shown a yellow card.

How did Barlow get a yellow? I've yet to see him make a challenge.

Definitely b) in my opinion!

Regardless of that we need to see some structure and pattern to our play instead of kick and rush up to our isolated striker
-
Every game we play too deep.
It never changes how do you think it will change when months later it hasn't.
A very young lad upfront on his own with nobody insight. That's what's happened from day one and still happens now.
Of course the players could be better, but if we play the same it still means ol1 upfront with 5 players round him and our players 20 yards behind, no matter how good you are, your still not doing anything from there.
Nothing is changing.

Dissent, ravenhill went down in our box and ref played on . Seemed correct if not a foul as was a back injury

I said after the recent Crawley defeat that I doubted that we could win another game this season.
Nothing has changed my mind.

I agree, especially while DS stays at the helm, I’ve seen teams on Stainy Welfare better organised
