We are paying hugely for not rectifying the striker situation. Who do we have to send on as a last attempt to score ... Joe Wright !!

Oooof. Unlucky. A real smash and grab from Pompey. Rovers were excellent. NEXT.

They scored 2 goals from 7 shots, we managed 1 from 25. Says it all. Well, not it all but says something.

Which of our chances would a number 9 have buried then.?

Sadliers

But it’s not just that is it, a proper goalscorer makes the right runs, gets in the correct positions.
There’s no doubt in my mind we wouldn’t have lost today or v Blackpool with a goalscorer in the side

Says they blocked a good few of our shots and we hit the bar twice. Their first goal was after James looked to have slipped..

Can’t blame this defeat on a lack of a no 9; we created plenty without one..

They were well drilled at the back, but oh my god I'd prefer to watch a dickov team than them for a season. If we played them again another 10 times they wouldn't get a point.

I’d like to say how good the ifollow commentary was today.  Marty Blair was very very good on there with Robbie.  He’s very intelligent, gives a good outlook on the players and also the team set up and tactics.  I’m sorry we lost but I enjoyed their match broadcast together and their insights.  I hope Matty recovers quickly of course but get him back on whenever you can again  ifollow

Creating chances isn’t the problem, it’s finishing them off.
A number 9s job isn’t to create its to finish them off so not sure what the point is you’re trying to make

Marquis when he played for us missed easier chances than Sadliers.

Look at yesterday”s game.

Apart from the one Sadlier chance, how would having a no 9 have made any difference to Whiteman, Taylor, Coppinger missing the target with good chances.?

With a number 9 we would perhaps have played differently and created different chances of course, but there’s no guarantee that a no 9 would have scored them or not had his shots blocked..

Of course not
But we’ve outplayed the majority of sides we’ve played this season yet we’re amongst the lowest 3 or 4 goal scorers in the division.
It’s not difficult to conclude that this is due to us not having purchased a replacement for marquis
